Introduction to OpenGL with SDL

Details

Robert Crosby from TrueVision Systems will present this month. Here is his description:

Graphics programming with OpenGL is sometimes considered a black art since it can be very difficult to learn. Worse yet, getting started with OpenGL often requires knowledge of how to set it up in your specific platform, such as Windows, OS X, or Linux. This is often a major barrier for beginners to get past before even starting to learn how to program for OpenGL. Fortunately, there are a number of frameworks available that make setting up OpenGL much easier on multiple platforms. I will be presenting on how to use one of these frameworks, SDL or Simple DirectMedia Layer, to set up a window with an OpenGL context. Then I will present the basics of using OpenGL to draw to that window, which can be expanded into your own C++ applications.

The meeting will be located at GEM (Goleta Entrepreneurial Magnet) at 600 Pine Avenue in downtown Goleta - the same place as last month's meeting.

Directions: turn South (toward the beach) onto Pine from Hollister. It's a few blocks down on the left. It's located behind ATK - look for the large ATK sign and then you'll see a small GEM sign. The entrance is the second driveway. Drive all the way to the back, go around the building, and then park in the lot on the other side. The entrance we'll be using is the only door on the back of the building - it's a small back so you can't miss it.
