Bernheim Trail Marathon and Half Marathon
Details
I think we have found the perfect place for a tough trail marathon. The half will basically be a loop of the Millenium Trail. If you have hiked or run there, you know what you're in for. If you're thinking of doing the marathon, know that the Millenium Trail will be the "easy" part. On the south side, you will be severely tested by lots of old fire roads, big climbs, and numerous knee-deep creek crossings (no long trail run is complete without creeks!). Winning time is projected to be near four hours.
But it's as beautiful as it is tough. The course runs within a few yards of an active bobcat den, up creekbeds and thru fields of wildflowers. And this may be the single best weekend of the year for the flora - the spring wildflowers will be in full bloom, and the summer show will be well underway.
You have 10 weeks to top off your tank! So I'll be at the Cherokee run at 7:00 on Saturdays for anyone who wants to start stepping up the mileage - we'll get a head start on the 8:00 group. And we'll also schedule a couple runs at Bernheim.
