The Facility at Edmonds College, in collaboration with the Washington Small Business Development Center, is offering a 2 episode workshop designed for individuals, like you, who want to start a small business. This online workshop is also a great way to level up if you are a new small business owner looking to improve your financial fluency, learn about the variety of financing options available to you, or build your knowledge of local resources as you grow your small business.

July 14 // Episode 1 // READY
The READY module addresses what a startup owner should be aware of as you get organized and prepare to start your small business. If you are in the pre-venture or ideation stage this is a great place to start as we cover the laundry list of issues new business owners need to be aware of. This module is also an excellent review of best practices for existing business owners and serves as a reminder of the importance of implementing those practices. The toolkit for this module provides a preparatory checklist for you as you consider launching your small business. We will also explore ongoing business requirements and provides information on organizations that can assist you as a small business owner in realizing your dream of business ownership. The module provides access to local common technical assistance and financing resources.
July 21 // Episode 2 // GO
The GO module focuses on the fundamentals of financial literacy and will help you prepare your company to be credit-ready. We will explore conventional and also non-traditional sources of financing available to new or established small businesses. This module covers the information and documentation you will need for your businesses in order to apply for a loan. It also reveals what lenders look for in a borrower’s experience and in a loan application so you will be ready when the time comes.
Bring your questions and be prepared for an informative experience. These are interactive sessions. You will have time during class to ask questions while you deepen your understanding. We will also have a Q&A at the end where you can discuss your specific concerns and get expert advice.
INSTRUCTOR
Giselle Saguid started her career in the microfinance industry in the Philippines implementing the Grameen methodology. After moving to Washington, she joined Community Capital Development to direct their Northwest Washington Women’s Business Center (NWWBC) in Snohomish County. As a military spouse, she has spent years teaching entrepreneurial classes as part of the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and Naval Air Station in Everett, earning recognition from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Seattle District Office as the Veteran Small Business Champion for 2013. A seasoned business mentor, Giselle is recognized for her ability to help people in under-served communities access information, capital, and markets to start and grow small businesses. She has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
