Open Mic Night at Fable
Fable - Cafe, Coffee, English Books, Rua dos Prazeres 10A, Lisboa, PTGet ready for a night of artistic expression in Fable's bookshop basement as we host our Open Mic Night!
### For our Audience:
Expect an evening brimming with music, poetry, spoken word, and comedy as we invite gifted performers to take the stage and share their art with our Fable community in our intimate, cozy, creative setting. This is a welcoming environment full of self expression and a creative community of humans. Arrive at 7pm to select your seat (first come, first serve!) and performances will start promptly at 7:20pm. The event is very popular, so do arrive on time otherwise your seat is not guaranteed.
Our bookshop in Príncipe Real is the perfect setting to unwind, enjoy performances by local artists, and mingle with fellow art lovers - and while you’re here, maybe even grab a glass of natural wine and enjoy a delicious bite to eat - yes, we do that too!
We know full well that our Fable community is packed full of talented performers and can't wait to share them with you! See you soon! :)

Learn the basics of bookbinding and create your own journal or sketchbook! This creative workshop welcomes anyone with a curious spirit, no prior experience required. We’ll start by exploring the history of bookbinding and how it has always been a way for people to shape their own stories and self-expression.Then, you’ll be guided step by step through two beautiful techniques: Coptic binding and Japanese stab binding. At the end, you will choose one of them to create your own finished book. All materials are included, and you’re welcome to bring a photo or image if you’d like to give your cover a personal touch.
Your hosts:
Fiona is a designer, artist, and the founder of “The Cloth,” a project that celebrates making and material culture. Her work is deeply connected to her surroundings. She transforms reclaimed fabrics and materials using traditional techniques that flow with nature. Each piece tells its own story and is part of an ongoing journey of creation.Pietro Cavalcanti is an artist, designer, and educator from São Paulo, Brazil. In his work and teaching, he explores drawing, free writing, calligraphy, and bookbinding, always inspired by the patterns and rhythms of nature. Since moving to Lisbon, his daily walks through the city have led him to discover a new love for analog photography. He is now a resident artist at Duplex Studios in Graça.

In this creative writing workshop, we will explore how to take the moments, memories, and even the challenging experiences of life and turn them into meaningful stories. Writing from real experience can be a beautiful way to make sense of the past, find healing, and transform what once felt heavy into something full of insight and heart, and maybe even a bit of laughter.Through thoughtful prompts and inspiring extracts, you will learn how to shape your experiences into writing that feels alive and authentic. Whether you are an experienced writer or just beginning, this workshop will help you tap into your inner storyteller, find your voice, and see your own life as a rich source of creative inspiration.
What do you need for the session?
All you need is a notebook and pen to write with. This is a technology-free event so you can be fully present.About your host:
Dr. Michael Langan (he/him)Writer, Editor, Mentor, Writing Coach, Teacher.
Michael Langan has been teaching creative writing in a variety of contexts for over twenty years, including at two U.K. universities. He now works on a freelance basis as a writing mentor, editor, teacher, and manuscript assessor, and has a PhD in creative writing.Michael's first novel, Shadow is a Colour as Light Is, was published by LUME (U.K.) in 2020. His approach to teaching creative writing is a nurturing and holistic one and he strongly believes in the inherent value of everyone's individual and unique voice.

The Writer’s Hour: Focused Writing & Community at Fable
Fable - Cafe, Coffee, English Books, Rua dos Prazeres 10A, Lisboa, PTNeed a little nudge to write? Come join our weekly community writing hour at Fable.
Every Tuesday night, we gather in our cozy bookshop cafe for a quiet, focused hour of writing. Whether you're journaling, drafting a novel, penning a love letter, or working on your next blog post, you're welcome here.
We'll write quietly together from 7:30–8:30pm, with an optional sharing circle afterwards for anyone who’d like to read a snippet aloud or connect about their project.
It’s free to join, and no pressure to share. Just come as you are, bring whatever you're working on, and give your creative energy a place to bloom.
A few extras:
- Arrive anytime after 6:30pm for a bite to eat, a glass of natural wine, or to mingle before we begin.
- We kindly ask that all guests order something to help us keep this beloved event going. Your support means the world to us (and our small team).
