Critical Planning Before You Start Your Home Garden Design

Details
We’re excited to welcome Maggie Pfeifle, immediate past president of the Fairfax Ferns Garden Club, for a talk on how to begin envisioning your garden. She will walk through the critical factors to consider before laying out a home garden design and present a practical checklist to guide your planning—whether you want to refresh part of your current landscape or start from scratch. Maggie will also address both short- and long-term considerations, recognizing that a garden is always evolving, and will share a thoughtful approach to help you design a space that truly works for you over time.
Agenda:
- 6:30 - 7:00 — Socializing and snacks
- 7:00 - 7:45 — "Hints for Planning your Landscape" with Maggie Pfeifle
- 7:45 - 8:00 — Break and begonias judging
- 8:00 - 8:30 — Ferns Garden Club meeting
Discussion ideas:
- When you think about your own garden, what part feels like it needs the most re-envisioning—and why?
- How do you balance short-term enjoyment (color this season, quick fixes) with long-term planning (trees maturing, structural changes)?
- What's one lesson you’ve learned from past garden projects that would help others who are starting to plan or redesign their spaces?
