Second Friday Discussion - Debating Religion
Details
This month we will do something we haven't done in a long time -- DEBATE! Since the month of April includes Easter and Passover, I decided the topic would be about religion. However, I will not reveal the specific question for debate until the event begins! As usual, we will socialize for about an hour before the event begins.
What to bring: We encourage everyone to bring food to share! My son Benjamin says people need to step up their food game, and appointed himself as gatekeeper to entry, based on the quality of food you brought (not sure if he was being facetious, so I wouldn't take any chances!)
Friendly Debate Format: After I reveal the question, I will ask everyone to choose whether they want to (1) support the proposition; (2) oppose the proposition; (3) be undecided. (Feel free to play Devil's Advocate!) The groups will separate and be given about an hour to prepare for the debate. Then each group will present their argument to the Undecided group. We will possibly have some rebuttal and/or Q&A for each team. Finally, the Undecided group will vote on the winner!
Hints: For some hints about the topic here is an article and hour-long YouTube video (both covering the same book).
