First Friday Discussion - Travel

This month we will discuss all things related to traveling! We'll meet oustide, weather permitting. As usual, we'll socialize for about an hour before the discussion begins. I encourage everyone to bring food to share.

Humans suffer from perceptual habituation—we grow blind to our everyday surroundings. Travel disrupts routine, provoking curiosity and heightened awareness. The true value of travel is not the physical location, but learning to see with fresh eyes.

The Case Against Travel
True self-transformation requires deep, difficult internal work—learning a discipline, building relationships, facing internal flaws. Travel promises an easy shortcut: change your physical location, and you change who you are. Travelers return virtually identical to who they were before, possessing only temporary experiences and anecdotes rather than actual personal growth.
