What we're about

This is a group for people interested in living a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle through cohousing, a type of intentional, collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their neighborhoods.

A group of people developing Fair Oaks EcoHousing in Fair Oaks, California, we are empty nesters, singles (both juniors and seniors), and families. We are developing an intergenerational eco-friendly cohousing community, and seeking new members to join our community to fill the 30 available housholds. We are working with award-winning architect Chuck Durrett of McCamant & Durrett Architects and Katie McCamant of CoHousing Solutions. Our Vision is to create an inclusive, earth-friendly community that fosters supportive relationships based on respect, cooperation, and fun. We call ourselves both EcoHousing and CoHousing.

Cohousing Discussion and Fair Oaks EcoHousing Site Overlook Tour

Fair Oaks Coffee House & Deli

Only a few homes left! Learn about greater Sacramento's second cohousing project, which is being developed in Fair Oaks (18 miles east of downtown Sacramento) on a lovely piece of land close to the American River Parkway and to Fair Oaks Village. The project will include 30 homes, a common house, and many other shared amenities, and will be finished in a few months. Cohousing is a way of living in a family-friendly community where you actually know and interact with your neighbors. You'll live in an energy-efficient flat or town home that will give you privacy when you want it, and right outside your door, a community of neighbors with which to share meals and activities. The community layout is designed to foster a safe environment for children, and to support community interactions. You'll have a shared clubhouse, pool, garden/orchard and workshop, and will be close to hiking, biking, nature walks, fishing, and kayaking. The goal is to create a community where neighbors know and care about each other. We meet at 10:30 am at the Fair Oaks Coffeehouse in Fair Oaks Village, located at 10223 Fair Oaks Blvd, at the intersection with Park Drive. There will be discussion about cohousing and our cohousing project in particular followed by an overlook view of the site where we are building our cohousing community. There will be an optional lunch afterwards at either Smokey Oaks Tavern right next door to the site, or Siam Patio just down the street. We can carpool to the site. The tour will be led by future residents of Fair Oaks EcoHousing. Learn more at www.FairOaksEcoHousing.org (http://www.fairoaksecohousing.org). Look for cohousing buttons, banners, signs, or a bunch of enthusiastic people looking for new neighbors to join them in co-creating their future homes. We meet in the patio area to the left of the coffee house, or in a building just behind the patio.
