Tahquitz Canyon Loop - Palm Springs

Details

This trail is 1.8 miles and leads to Tahquitz waterfall and back. From the Visitor's Center to the falls you will be gaining 350 feet in elevation. The trail is steep and rocky with many rock steps to climb. You must have good balance and be able to climb up and down rock steps that may be as high as 12-15 inches. This canyon has very little shade, no restroom facilities, and no water fountains. Hikers must dress appropriately for the weather conditions, protect themselves from the sun, carry water (32 ounces at minimum), and wear hiking boots, hiking water shoes, or sneakers.

AllTrails App has this hike listed as "Easy".

Hikers are permitted to go into the water at the waterfall. Reviews on AllTrails say that the water is cold, so you may want to be prepared for that, if you plan to go in the water.

No animals are allowed on this trail, but all humans are welcome.

Purchase your day-hike tickets for $15 at the trail head at Agua Caliente Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center, 500 W. Mesquite Ave., Palm Springs. Military is free with military ID.

Tahquitz Canyon is one of the most beautiful and culturally sensitive areas of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Reservation. Tahquitz Canyon is home to a spectacular seasonal 60-foot waterfall, rock art, ancient irrigation systems, native wildlife, and plants. Located at the entrance to the canyon, the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center offers educational and cultural exhibits. The Center offers a display of artifacts, an observation deck, and a theater room for viewing The Legend of Tahquitz video.
