netpd: collaborative music making environment

Details

This event will be taking place via the netpd discord... an invite for the discord channel is here. I will be streaming my screen and audio to give you an online workshop. You can also ask questions via discord audio.

netpd is a CRNMME (Collaborative Realtime Networked Music Making Environment) built in Pure Data. It allows many users to have a realtime
jam sessions with each other, connected over the internet.

The set of instruments, as well as the state of each instrument is synchronized between clients in order to provide identical experience for every connected user.

m-onz will take you through the process of installing and starting a jam with the help of online participants. Simply join the live stream to see the presentation and music jam...

Running order...

1. basic overview of netpd
2. installing it
3. starting a network jam
4. using some instruments
5. questions and answers

The aim to get more people using netpd and eventually having a performance with 30+ people playing live at a future fakedac~ event. m-onz created fakedac~ to promote use of algorithmic techniques for art and music making and to give live coders, VJ's and AV (audio / visual artists) more opportunities to perform.

The live stream will be hosted on https://fakedac.net for free.

final notes:

All tools and software used are open source and completely free for life. No subscriptions or hidden costs will be incurred. The live stream is free to access. I do not collect data from users or ask for personal information, ever.

This stream is suitable for complete beginners with no technical background beyond basic computer proficiency (eg downloading and opening software).

No knowledge of computer programming or algorithmic music is required to participate with the event or network jam. Netpd has a friendly graphical interface (no code) that looks like common music software you might be aware of.

The most challenging bit will probably be installing and understanding some Pure data (Pd) basics needed to get the system up and running. There is no need to be a Pd or netpd "expert" to get started.
