What we’re about

## What's a 'drum circle' or 'group drumming'?

It's people coming together to play various percussion instruments, typically in a circle and led by a facilitator whose role is to make it easy for anyone to join in and be a part of the rhythm.

## Who is it for?

Everyone at any age! It’s especially great for people looking for a break from screens, dealing with stress or ADHD, or just wanting to connect with others through music (and without talking). Families, kids, teens, and adults are all invited to join.

## What if I don't have a musical bone in my body?

All good. A drum circle is about just feeling the beat and joining in naturally. Everyone follows simple rhythms, starting slow and building up to more energetic beats.

## Why should I attend this particular drum circle?

Less stress, being in the moment, and finding connection through something that's innately natural to all of us - we were, after all, tuned to our own mother's rhythmic heart beat and breathing while in the womb! The drum circles hosted by Tempo Temple are intended to encourage exploration of sounds and the textures of a wide variety of percussion instruments.

## Is this focused on any particular culture or regional style?

Rhythm and drumming are inherently human, and not tied to a particular belief or culture. We use it as a positive, non-digital activity to overcome stress, pain, and the distractions of technology. We use instruments from all over the world, and our focus is on finding the collective tempo and rhythm of the group by exploring various beats and styles.

## Do I need my own percussion instrument?

We have hand percussion instruments available for you to play, and if you have your own, bring it to share!

## What do people say after attending a Tempo Temple drum circle?

"I love putting my phone away for a couple of hours and just being in the moment with great people."

"Hands down one of the best things for my busy and active mind, and it gets my energy out in a positive way."

"Drumming along with the group rhythm helps me train my mind to focus."

"When everyone is playing the same rhythm together, it's such a powerful feeling with the natural vibrations of the drums."

"For me this is so much more fun than going to the gym. I get to move around, bang on drums and make noise -- and I break a sweat!"

## Will it be too loud for me?

Some attendees choose to wear sound-dampening headphones while they play, and some sit further away from the center of the circle. Once you find a right balance of distance and duration, you'll also find your rhythmic groove!
