June book club meeting is on Myths, Legends, & Folklore Retellings and the group voted on I, Medusa by Ayana Gray.
I, Medusa: A New Kind of Villain Origin Story by Ayana Gray is a YA fantasy retelling of the Greek myth, reimagining Medusa as a young woman of color who is a favored acolyte of Athena before being cursed by Poseidon, transforming her into a monster and forcing her to reclaim her narrative as a powerful figure, exploring themes of injustice, rage, and agency. The story follows Meddy from her isolated island home to Athens, where she trains as a priestess, only for her life to be irrevocably changed by the gods, leading her to embrace her new identity as a vigilante.
I’m still deciding on location but will update soon.
