**New members, please note that this is a women's book club. While we are supportive of everyone's love of reading, this gathering will be women only. Thank you for understanding!**
Ladies,
As always, this meeting is BYOB. I'll also send out a sign-up list for food and snacks a couple weeks out from the event!
A $20 member fee to assist in covering our beautiful venue is requested by the day of the meeting — cash or Venmo. While it is acceptable to bring your payment on the day of the event, it is helpful to have it paid via Venmo in advance, if possible. Thank you all!
Our max capacity is 27 people with our space and setup, so please respond early if you'd like to join! RSVP responses are required for all attendees.
Please be aware that this meeting is featuring two books, both of which are dark fantasy. Manacled is a novel-length work of Dramione fanfiction and the inspiration for the traditionally published book Alchemised, which releases on Sept. 23. We are reading both for this event. Before you begin these reads, all content warnings should be read carefully and all readers should listen to their limits regarding this content. I will include full content warnings below for both books.
Your host, Kelly
MANACLED – SYNOPSIS:
Harry Potter is dead. In the aftermath of the war, in order to strengthen the might of the magical world, Voldemort enacts a repopulation effort. Hermione Granger has an Order secret, lost but hidden in her mind, so she is sent as an enslaved surrogate to the High Reeve, to be bred and monitored until her mind can be cracked.”
MANACLED – CONTENT WARNINGS:
This work is dark. Rape and non-consensual sex are a significant and ongoing aspect of the plot. There are also character deaths, psychological trauma, descriptions of battlefield violence, and references to torture. Reader discretion is advised.
ALCHEMISED – SYNOPSIS:
Once a promising alchemist, Helena Marino is now a prisoner—of war and of her own mind. Her Resistance friends and allies have been brutally murdered, her abilities suppressed, and the world she knew destroyed.
In the aftermath of a long war, Paladia’s new ruling class of corrupt guild families and depraved necromancers whose vile, undead creatures helped bring about their victory, holds Helena captive.
According to Resistance records, she was a healer of little importance within their ranks. But Helena has inexplicable memory loss of the months leading up to her capture, making her enemies wonder: Is she truly as insignificant as she appears, or are her lost memories hiding some vital piece of the Resistance’s final gambit?
To uncover the memories buried deep within her mind, Helena is sent to the High Reeve, one of the most powerful and ruthless necromancers in this new world. Trapped on his crumbling estate, Helena’s fight—to protect her lost history and to preserve the last remaining shreds of her former self—is just beginning. For her prison and captor have secrets of their own . . . secrets Helena must unearth, whatever the cost.
ALCHEMISED – CONTENT WARNINGS:
Alchemised is a work of dark fantasy containing wartime violence, religious abuse, depictions of complex trauma, suicidal ideation, self- harm, human experimentation, medical torture, eugenics, cannibalism, sexual assault, rape, and allusions to necrophilia. Please remember that depiction is not authorial endorsement. Because Alchemised is told in third-person limited point of view, it necessarily involves some distortions of vision as well as missed or misconstrued events. Reader discretion is advised.
