Abstracts:
Building Peaceful Teams: Integrating Non-violent Communication into Socio-Technical Design
In the fast-paced world of software delivery, effective communication is key to successful collaboration. In this interactive session, we'll not only discuss the theory behind Non-violent Communication (NVC) and how they enhance your ability to navigate complex team dynamics, but also engage in a couple of hands-on exercises from the book by Marshall Rosenberg and discuss its practical applications in IT to create more harmonious collaborations and improving the wiring of the organization.
Join us to explore the art of temporarily parking your own needs to truly understand and address the needs of others, and discover the profound impact it can have on your team dynamics, creating more peaceful and productive communication. Let's build vibrant, inclusive teams that thrive on understanding and compassion!
How to Organize Your Teams for long-term Planning: Uncovering the Do's and Don'ts
Essent has 30 software development teams that do product development aligned with various technical business strategies. We prefer to work in small iterations to minimize dependencies between teams, but also need some level of long-term predictability to plan for larger product launches. So how do we balance long-term project planning with creating flow? We found that certain team structures help us, while others don't. In this talk we'll share the trade-offs between different ways of organizing teams and how we ended up organizing ours based on what worked and what didn't.
Speakers:
Lindy Hutz, Technical Product Owner and DDD Coach
Lindy has a background as a Solution Architect and Developer. Residing near Eindhoven with a loving family, Lindy is passionate about learning more about effective communication in both professional and personal spheres. Beyond tech, Lindy is an avid reader, enjoys crafting beer, and unwinds with a wee dram of good whiskey. Connect with Lindy via https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindyhutz/
Arjen de Ruiter - Head of Delivery at Essent
Before Essent, Arjen worked for software driven organizations like Sendcloud and bol.com. Arjen is co-host of the Engineering Leadership Meetup. He lives in Den Bosch with his family. Connect with Arjen via https://www.linkedin.com/in/arjenderuiter/
