Every Thanksgiving morning the Moore County Hounds invites the public to attend their opening meet and Blessing of the Hounds tradition. The ritual dates back to the Middle Ages and is the formal start of the foxhunting season. The event starts with the procession of hunt masters (red coats) and their mounts, riders, and the hounds entering the field. Dawning robes to signify St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunting, a blessing is given asking for protection of the riders, horses, and hounds for the upcoming season. After the blessing the hounds are released and three flights (groups) of riders led by their hunt master follow the hounds on the hunt. You'll be able to watch the first few jumps as they leave and return. You'll have a chance to meet the hounds once the group returns.

This is a fun tradition that allows the public to see a little of how a foxhunt works and to have fun with the community. There's music, some people tailgate, and there will be food vendors as well.

Out of respect for Moore County Hounds and the safety of the dogs and riders, please do not bring any pets with you.
