The Sacred Tarot, Tools for Transformation: Key 12, The Hanged Man

One who truly lives from the center of their being will find themselves, at times, standing against the washing tides of the collective mind and remain unwavering.

Our present culture and environment, mostly unaware of higher expressive possibilities, creates currents of massmind which flow and eddy in various directions, carrying individuals to unintended places and behaviors. These currents are guided by unconscious primitive instincts in the collective and gather force as more people succumb to the participation mystique, the comfort of being in the group. The uninitiated find themselves unknowingly swept down these streams of misunderstood external circumstances as the only possible reality, which pulls good-intending people along with primitive misdirection.

Key 12, The Hanged Man, seems to be an image of a person in a precarious situation lacking power to respond to such waves of the massmind, however, nothing could be further from the truth. He has stilled his mind to see beneath the surface and remain unaffected by such sweeping tides of unconscious forces. He has attained the spiritual reality where he clearly knows that his entire being is supported by the divine spiral of creation, and that all external experiences are also suspended by the One-Life expressing in many ways. This reversal of thinking and acting apart from the collective current enables him to remain vertical to the stream of the massmind. To the collective, he appears to be upside down, but we all exist in the same manner as he: eternally tethered to creative forces-to-good, though we know it not.

This Sunday, Eric and Marybeth will unpack the meaning of the symbols and ideas of Tarot Key 12, The Hanged Man, and discuss how one can use this tarot image to aid in personal transformation and the understanding of spiritual stability. Though this module is an introduction to the Tarot, classes are open to those with all levels of experience and backgrounds.
