Ride to the Monument
Details
A 30-ish mile route, from Bay Area park to the monument. Not many bail-outs along the way. We will take 2 short breaks, one at the monument or battleship for some pictures, then a slightly longer one on 225 just to pick up water or snacks at the store there.
Good news and bad news. Bad news, there's going to be a strong headwind on the way there. Be ready to have cold weather and a killer headwind sapping all of your energy. The good news: a wind that should push us to fast fast speeds on the entire Independence/Underwood return leg.
We'll meet up by the duck pond near the exit. This route does put us into the wind on the return, but Bay Area park has good parking and decent facilities. Be aware that the shoulder on Independence Pkwy is pretty rough. Bring a spare tube or two and some CO2 or a pump.
Last time we rode this it turned into a 40-mile ride to go around a train, but it was a pretty good ride in any case.
Although we're not a no-drop group per se, we don't let anyone ride alone. Unless you decide to sprint away so we can't catch you, then you're welcome.
