Global Fat Bike Day 2019: Lehigh Valley/Pocono Pennsylvania Area

Join us as we celebrate the 8th Annual Global Fat Bike Day in our little corner of the world!

This year we plan to start from Lehighton Outdoor Center (LOC) in Lehighton. From there we'll head up the Weissport Canal Trail to the lovely resort town of Jim Thorpe and then climb up to Mauch Chunk Lake and the Switch Back Trail up toward Summit Hill. We'll then descend back into town for a quick stop at Marion Hose Bar fire pits to warm up and then back to LOC to end our ride. **Post ride gathering at the new Insurrection Distillery & PA Craft Beer/Wine Tasting Room next to LOC.

LOC will have their bathroom/shower/changing rooms open for us and hot and cold beverages for sale. Plenty of extra parking next door at the Carbon County Employment Service Building too.

We'll be riding on a mix of rail trail, single track and double track with some rocks, roots and ruts, some roads and a little bit of climbing. It's a group ride so play nicely with your fellow riders. Ride at your own pace and since it's essentially out and back ride as long or short of a ride as you'd like - we'll have a sweep to pick up stragglers.

Approximate ride distance is 25 miles round trip with 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Climb out 12+ miles (mostly 2-3% railroad grade) and descent back 12+ miles!

Hopefully we can get a nice group photo out at Mauch Chunk Lake on the Beach.

What to bring:

*Your Fat and/or Plus Bike
*All Your Friends who have Fat and/or Plus Bikes
*Your Friends with regular mountain bikes to show them there are other fat bikers out there (regular mountain bikes are welcome to join us!)
*Helmets required
*Dress for the conditions
*Front/rear lights recommended since there is a little road riding through Jim Thorpe
*$ for food/beverage stops along the way
