"Build a Data Science Team From Scratch"
Dr. Inbal-Budsowski-Tal
Sr. Director of Machine Learning @ Pendo
What would you do if you had to build a data science team from scratch? What would be your first move? Your first hire? Your first project? How would all that translate to a clear, achievable vision that will truly make an impact?
A year ago, I joined Pendo, a unicorn with no ML department, with one important mission: build a successful ML group from scratch. Today, my group has 11 talented data scientists and ML engineers, two highly strategic projects, high visibility to executive management, and plenty of positive attention & feedback from both management and customers.
In this talk, I will share my experience, and give practical advice based on my success (and failure!) stories on how to build DS teams that deliver results.

"Five Things I Learned as a Data Science Manager"
Ilana Klovatch
Research Team Lead at Pagaya
Data science teams are often diverse, consisting of people from different disciplines with varying levels of experience. How do you manage such a diverse team in the best way? How do you keep them engaged? How can you build a strong and long lasting team, where each member's strengths and abilities are best utilized? In this talk, I share from my experience as a data science team lead, my view on how to create a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and team spirit that addresses the challenges of data science being a team sport.
