Want to explore more of beautiful Oregon by bike? Then register for the Cycle the Lakes bike event ride out of Cottage Grove on September 20. The event is sponsored by the Cottage Grove Rotary and the money raised goes to support children’s programs in the Cottage Grove area. The routes go by Dorena Lake, Cottage Grove Lake, numerous late 19th century covered bridges, and many streams and rivers. It is fun terrain to ride, plus exceptionally scenic. Do note that a tiny bit of the route is on a gravel road, but it is safe to ride with a road bike.

You can read about the event ride and register here: http://www.cyclethelakes.org/

There is a 102-mile full century route, a 67-mile long metric century route and a family route of 32 miles.

The century route has an elevation gain of 5369 feet: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2171119

The metric century route has an elevation gain of 2531 feet: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2168894

The 32-mile route has an elevation gain of 1390 feet: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2216930

Last year Nance Stone and I attempted the 67-mile route; however we were deluged with heavy rain and called it quits after circling the first lake, about 35 miles. I hope to see some of you there this year - and no rain! The second photo, that is me with a lake on the right and I am biking on a short stretch of gravel Forest Service Road, a very short stretch. Nance took the photo.
