Topic: Compliance in the Federal Space – A Primer

Session Description:

You may know about SharePoint and applying ADA Section 508 or DOD 5015.2, but what other Federal Regulations apply to your farm? There are hundreds of rules and standards that can apply to a federal SharePoint farm that can include areas acrossSecurity, Personal Data, Records, or even system Usability.

In this session we will walk through a high level overview of the some of the US Laws and International rules that often apply to SharePoint data and systems. Then we will review the types of rules that you may run across and go over specific regulations that my team has had to apply to SharePoint systems and look a little deeper into the more common ones.

Finally since knowing the rules is only half the battle, we will take a look at compliance enforcement and the tools that will allow you to keep your systems and data in compliance.

Speaker Bio:

Neal Cooper is a SharePoint Consultant with over a decade of web based IT consulting for the US Federal Government. His clients over the years have included groups in the US Departments of Defense, Justice, Energy, Treasury and Interior. Additionally, Neal holds degrees in Information Systems, Communications, and a Masters in Management Information Systems, which have served him well as IT has merged with Collaboration and Communication to give us products like SharePoint, Linc and Office 365.

Currently Neal holds the position of Technical Architect at MicroLink (an HP owned professional services company) and manages a team of highly skilled SharePoint Architects and Administrators in the DC based Information Management Practice. When he is not trying to decipher what his latest client wants when they say that they want “better collaboration”, he spends his time in his back lawn in the beautiful Shenandoah River valley pondering how to apply Aristotle's three artistic proofs while running in circles dodging balls thrown by his very active son.
