Title: SharePoint 2010 as a Platform for Utilizing and Visualizing Geolocation Data

Abstract: This session has grown out of my experiences as a SharePoint developer over the past 5 years. The presentation and code will give every developer an advanced solution for using SharePoint 2010 as the platform at their job for utilizing, incorporating, and visualizing geolocation data.

The presentation starts with an overview of SharePoint 2010 with a focus on all of the areas that will be discussed throughout the presentation including BCS connections, web parts, event receivers, JavaScript, and external web services. I then demo a basic custom web part that leverages Google Maps for visualization. Next I discuss available external web services that can be leveraged. Finally I show an enhanced custom web part that leverages multiple external web services or third party programs as well as shows how to integrate all the data both internally and externally. I wrap up the presentation with multiple options for implementing this solution including custom code, JavaScript, or a combination of both. The presentation and code will be freely available via my blog and website.
