Walk the Cedar River and Community Trails ~ Renton's History

Details

This is a group led walk, approximately 4 miles roundtrip and about 2 hours. We begin at the Renton Community Center and walk along the Cedar River Community Trail heading west to get a nice view of Lake Washington located next to the Renton Rowing Center and opposite the Renton Boeing Plant. Val will share a few facts about the City of Renton and sites along the way. As we will travel back to town, we will go through downtown Renton to capture some history and see an illuminating art piece. We will leave and return to the same location.

Where to Meet
We will meet in front of the Renton Community Center. When facing the building, we will meet to the far right of the entrance by the Renton Community Center sign. Find Val who will be wearing a bright yellow hat.

Parking is free, follow signs to the Renton Community Center.

Restrooms
If you arrive early, restrooms are located behind the Community Center, in a separate building. Be ready to leave by 10:00 am. We will begin on the Cedar River Trail after leaving the Community Center.

On the Trail
We will need to keep to the right of the trail as it’s shared with other walkers, runners, cyclists, and other wheeled devices. We will be crossing streets, walking on sidewalks and need to be mindful of uneven pavement. The weather is expected to be warm, but please wear sturdy walking shoes, no flip flops please. Be sure to bring a bottle of water, sunscreen and any snacks and we will take a break once we reach Lake Washington.

This walk will be at a steady pace, about 2 mph or faster, if the group can keep together. It is suitable for anyone who can easily walk up and down slanted sidewalks, mindful when crossing busy streets, intermittent traffic noise, uneven pavement and whatever the weather delivers. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

For everyone's safety: Please stay home if you are sick.
