What You’ll Learn
In this beginner-friendly course, you’ll get an introduction on Conversational AI research and design methods, and practice deploying the a chat assistant bot through Voiceflow.

Workshop facilitators will host activities while working through building the NYC 311 Chat AI Assistant sandbox, an educational initiative within the Open Civic Tech Project.

IMPORTANT:
You must provide your photo ID to enter this location. The email you have provided through registration, will be your designated communication for entry access into the building.
You must also bring your laptop to follow along with the workshop. Students need Figma, Claude, and Voiceflow accounts.

Are there any prerequisites in terms of design, coding, or AI familiarity?
No, this workshop is intended for beginners. Foundational UX knowledge is helpful.

What design concepts will be taught in this workshop?
Design methodology needed in building Conversational Interfaces. You will be introduced in the discovery process of an example chatbot project, and leave with templates that you can practice with.

What accounts need to be set up in advance?
Students need Figma, Claude, and Voiceflow accounts. Free accounts will work.

Will this be mostly hands-on building, critique, or demos?
First, we will recap design method templates followed by activities to practice the design canvas. Then, we will plug our work into Voiceflow to build the bot.

What is the anticipated outcome or goal of this session?
By the end of this workshop, we will build a sample bot using Voiceflow, and deploy the bot on the browser to test it.
