Details

This is the MeetUp for the March 2013 FEDM Meeting at O Cinema! If applicable, we'll talk about the results of the CSS 101 challenge (https://www.meetup.com/Front-end-Developers-of-Miami/messages/boards/thread/31666982) and have a couple of awesome speakers:

SPEAKER #1: Working with Git - with Jake A. Smith

If you're paying $7 / month for a GitHub account and don't know why, this talk is for you. We'll start by building a foundational knowledge of what Git can do for you and how it works, spend some time in the terminal working with the most common Git commands and then launch into some QA to discuss team workflows. Drag your team along and come prepared to ask questions.

Jake A. Smith is a developer for a local e-commerce company. He is primarily a server side code and infrastructure kind of guy these days, but occasionally has the chance to hack on micro projects with LESS and Angular.js.

SPEAKER #2: A Sip of CoffeeScript to Get You Started - Mauricia Ragland

As front-end developers we've all heard about coffee script. If you're anything like me you may have some hesitations to giving it a try...I mean it is just another preprocessor to learn, and what's wrong with plain old javascript?! I say plain old JavaScript is great, but anything that makes life easier for as a developer is phenomenal. Come out and learn why CoffeeScript is so popular. I'll give you some pointers on how to avoid some pitfalls that almost had me shelf CoffeScript. Most importantly I'll help ou learn the basics so that you're able to give it a real chance!

Mauricia is a front to back freelance developer and entrepreneur at heart. She strongly believes that developers should be learning at all times, and that learning from one another is the best way to do it. As a new Miami local she co-organizes the Front-end Developers of Miami, founded and organized a local event named Code Miami, and helps others find and announce their local tech event in hopes of creating a stronger ecosystem here in South Florida.
