Let's take a drive to the Midcoast and take in one of Maine's most iconic wildlife spectacles. The annual spring alewife run in Damariscotta Mills rewards visitors with an exciting blend of wildlife, history, natural beauty and human innovation.

Watch in wonder as tens of thousands of alewives heed the ancient call to return to the place of their birth and make their way upstream in numbers so dense that they turn the water black. Experience the drama as these humble fish battle the current , the eagles, osprey and gulls in a struggle for survival.

Savor the moment of triumph when the exhausted alewives finally make it to the top of the ladder and into Damariscotta Lake.
