Lunch and Literary Salon Book Launch with Local Woman Author!
Details
Join me at Elaine's Literary Salon to enjoy a delicious lunch together and celebrate a new coming-of-age novel by local author (and woman in our demographic, and friend of mine) Solveig Eggerz!
Be sure to sign up on Eventbrite here (free) as well as your RSVP with us, so they know how many are coming.
The event includes self-pay lunch from Elaine's great menu, then an interview with the author, questions from the audience, and finally conversation and book signing. It is fine to come late or leave early as needed.
And purchasing the book is optional of course. But Solveig has also agreed to join us another time in person for a book discussion among those who choose to buy or borrow the book!
A native of Iceland, Solveig Eggerz has lived in Alexandria since 1974. Besides writing several books of historical fiction and other genres, she has taught at The Writers Center in Bethesda and has worked with prisoners at Northern Virginia detention centers.
Her new book "Sweet Potato" is described as "a searching, darkly funny novel about inheritance, family secrets, and the restless need to know one’s beginnings. Lorenza is a sharp, restless teenager in Virginia who has grown up feeling both loved and unsettled in her adoptive family. After a rattlesnake bite and a strange, vivid hospital vision of a woman she believes may be her birth mother, Lorenza becomes consumed by the need to uncover where she came from. At once fierce, funny, and aching, Sweet Potato is a coming-of-age story about a girl determined to claim her own identity while discovering that the people who raise us and the people we long for can shape us in equally powerful ways."
There are several parking garages near Elaine's Restaurant, and it's only half a mile from the Braddock Road metro station (that's how I'll get there!).
Be sure to sign up on Eventbrite (free) along with your RSVP here — hope to see you!
