About 4 hours of Walking
Covering about 10km.
Stopping Lots to Learn something together about the things we see.
Meet and Greet is 11am.
With a Finish around 4.30pm.
Bring along your snacks and drinks or not, or plenty of shops close by, and even a popular Fish n Chips shop..
Today's Urban Walk is a visit to this area of Cultural Diversity at Glen Innes and beyond includes walking on footpaths, green reserves, and the beach, so something for everyone's pleasure.
After leaving the Carparking at Sunhill Fruit Centre and Carparking area, we will head doen to Glen Innes where we will have a toilets visit, and check out some amazing wall Art of which many people have painted the old buildings here , which is a real melting pot of Auckland's Pacific Island Communities and other nations.
We will then walk to the start of the Tahuna Torea Reserve via The Point England Walkway..first created here in 1982 .
Tahuna Torea is a Coastal Bird Sanctuary, home to many different birds in this 25 hectare wilderness habitat, where we can explore the beach , and observe and photograph some birds, which live here . The Sandspit is of particular interest if the tide allows us to walk along the edge of the Tamaki Estuary, and we can look out over to the other side, seeing Half Moon Bay. There's pockets of bush here and a few freshwater ponds to see more birds.
Returning to the Point England Walkway we head on to Glendowie, and get glimpses of the more wealthiest homes in this coastal area, with its high cliffs and elegant gated entrances..
Next we will explore more bush reserves within Churchill Park, and further on Visit , St Heliers Bay Beach, and then another hidden bush reserve area called Dingle Dell, once a dump, until in the 1950s, a beautification community project, turned this hillside area , into a magnificent almost Garden of Eden, with mature trees, and an almost maze of trails, a popular destination for people living here, Dingle Dell is one of my Favourite , Urban Wilderness areas to visit, so very close to the busy Tamaki Drive, walkers and cycling people, which today's Bespoke Urban Walk, we will bypass..
We complete the Circuit back to the Carparking at Sunhill Fresh Market and the former Garden Centre now closed.
Its here we can enjoy Fresh Fruit Ice-creams, and a rest , before heading home .
