Wednesday Evening Hike: Norris Watershed Trail System
Details
What This Is
This is our Wednesday evening hike series — the on-ramp for getting to know Fierce Planet Adventures and the community around it. Whether you're new to hiking, new to our group, or just looking for a solid evening out after work, this is the place to start. No pressure, no ego, just real people getting outside together.
Date & Time
Wednesday, May 20 Meet: 5:45 PM (Lenoir Museum parking area, Norris Freeway/US 441 & Lower Clear Creek Road) Step-off: 6:00 PM sharp
The Route
Ridgecrest Trail to Freeway Trail to Longmire Trail with a short section of High Point Trail, returning via Freeway Trail and Ridgecrest Trail back to the parking area.
Distance & Elevation
Distance: ~3.6-3.7 miles Elevation Gain: ~910 feet Pace: Steady, conversational Terrain: Dirt, rock, roots, elevation changes, uneven ground
What to Expect
A moderate evening hike through the Norris Watershed trail system. The route features some elevation gain early on with rewarding views of the surrounding foothills. The trails are well-maintained but require good footing in places. This is a good test of your hiking comfort level without being overwhelming.
Parking & Logistics
The trailhead parking lot is small to medium sized, so we'll meet at the Lenoir Museum (corner of Norris Freeway and Lower Clear Creek Road) and carpool together to the trailhead — about a mile up the road. This ensures we're not overwhelming the lot and keeps the group together.
Who This Is For
Beginner to intermediate hikers looking for a solid evening out. If you're just starting your hiking journey or want to explore what we're building here, this is the event for you. No experience necessary — just be willing to move at a steady pace and navigate moderate terrain.
Optional Post-Hike Gathering
After the hike, we'll head over to Clinch River Brewing for those who want to stick around. It's just a short drive from the trailhead — a great spot to grab a drink, some food, and keep the conversation going.
