A discussion of two of Carlos Reygadas’s most enigmatic and visually radical films: Silent Light (2007) and Post Tenebras Lux (2012).

Please watch both films individually before the session. This is a discussion group rather than a screening—we will not be watching the films together during the meetup.

Reygadas’s cinema is difficult to reduce to conventional narrative or interpretation. Across these two films, he explores faith, desire, infidelity, family, mortality, transcendence, and the relationship between the natural and the metaphysical, often through fractured chronology, striking compositions, unusual sound design, and deliberately destabilising shifts in perspective.

No specialist knowledge is required. The aim is to have a thoughtful, serious conversation about the films, with room for disagreement and different interpretations.

📍 Location

570 Lygon St, Carlton — College Square

We’ll meet in the lobby first, where everyone can gather, and then proceed together to the discussion room.

Important: Please watch both Silent Light and Post Tenebras Lux before attending, as the discussion will assume that everyone has seen them.
