The Artifice Girl is a zero-budget, first-time feature by a brilliant writer/director/actor previously unknown to me, Franklin Ritch. His movie is a chamber piece with a minimal set/location and a small, mostly unknown cast. It’s dense with dialogue and ideas rather than action or spectacle.

Some films provide an experience that’s powerful but hard to convey in words. This is such a film. The writing’s incredibly sharp and emotionally layered, exploring the emergent consciousness of AI, and contemplating what it means to be human.

The Artifice Girl (1:33) is available for free from your local library, Kanopy and Hoopla, and for rent or purchase on Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV, F Cinema and Plex.

*** NOTE TO NEW MEMBERS ***
Please watch the movie before the meetup. Information to help find the films will generally be posted in the description or in the comments on the webpage. During the meetup itself, we discuss the movie, but we don't watch it. It's a book club style movie group.
