Post-Classical Narration: The Future of Storytelling
Details
What do Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, and Edgar Wright have in common?
They all use Post-classical Narration in their storytelling. What does this mean?
Their movies are among other things: self-aware, separated into chapters, make a non-linear use of time, and they often use narrators.
These are all examples of Post-classical narration.
In this lecture, Orlando Solano will summarize the main points of the book : A Guide to Post-Classical Narration: The Future of Storytelling. The book is written by Eleftheria Thanouli, a professor in Film Theory at Aristotle University of Thessalonoki.
Using short clips from movies, you will understand what Post-classical narration is, its recent growth, and how it's different from both classical Hollywood storytelling and the more European art films.
After the talk, we will have a discussion about post-classical narration, so you can learn how to identify it and how you can use it in your own filmmaking.
Location TBD, depending on the number of RSVPs.
