Filmonik Kabaret 2023: Main filmmaking event

The Filmonik Kabaret is our yearly all-you-can-film buffet of spontaneous creativity where everyone collaborates on as many short films as they can in a shared production space called the Kinolab, at Kindred Studios in Yarraville. The 72-hour session of filmmaking is immediately followed by the premiere screening, part of Setting Sun Film Festival. It's fun, it's epic, you meet heaps of new people and get attached to many productions on-the-spot just by hanging out in the hub.
It's a celebration of film, not a competition. No real creative restrictions, no teams set in advance. Writers and directors can improvise or come with a script ready to go but it's with the cast and crew present in the hub that the magic will happen; short films can get written, shot and edited all in and around the hub. It's not a requirement but it's how it's done best, how you can learn more, how you can get help when you need it, and how you can hop on anyone's project and develop new skills.

There's a ticket for Directors and another for all other participants; cast, crew or any other type of film artisan.

Ticket includes:
- Access to our collaborative space at Kindred Studios from the evening of Friday May 12 to Monday May 15.
- Entry to the Monday May 15 screening.

Setting Sun Film Festival will run May 11 to 21. The Filmonik Kabaret will run inside the festival May 12 to 15 to truly solidify Yarraville into filmmaker central and premiere the freshest batch of films the festival will have ever seen.
