Alleyways of the City of London photo walk
Details
Alleyways of the City of London – 1 mile photo walk.
A 1 mile walk exploring the alleyways around the area known as the City of London.
We start at The New Moon pub in Leadenhall Market. We will spend a few minutes photographing around the market area before we cross Gracechurch Street to explore the small alleyways and narrow lanes of this area which are steeped in 17th and 18th century history.
Equipment
It will depend largely on the weather on the day but expect low light levels in the narrow alleyways. So large aperture lenses and fast films will be the order of the day. I will probably be using a 50mm f1.4 lens and shooting Ilford HP5+ pushed to 800.
Style of shooting
You can choose to shoot however you like but I’m hoping to get some shots emulating black and white film noir look.
Think of pure black shadows and high contrast. Also unusual compositions with subject offset to the elements of architecture. Maybe use limited depth of field to shoot subject through something else? Look for bright patches of light to frame your subject in.
It’s best to expose for the highlights to make sure you don’t get blown out highlights and the shadows are black.
