Southern Sierra Conditioning Hikes

The Southern Sierra Conditioning Hikes club features three levels of conditioning hikes presented at Hart Park east of Bakersfield. Hart Park provides the bluffs needed for the extra strength training hills can provide compared to the flat lands of west Bakersfield. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, opportunity for you to improve your physical fitness, enabling you to be in better shape for longer day hikes and camping trips to the many beautiful, awe-inspiring areas.

Check the schedule for Beginners, Intermediate (or Moderate), and Advanced. The hikes are between 3 to 6 miles and completed in 1.5 to 2 hours. We have had great success helping new and returning hikers! It's a lot of fun doing these roller coaster type hikes while getting to know new friends.

Our sister group, Southern Sierra Hiking Club, provides hiking activities all year round in the mountains and wilderness areas in California. If not already a member, you are welcome to join them also.  Hiking areas feature the Sequoia National Forest, Sequoia National Park, and the Giant Sequoia National Monument. They hike on trails, scramble, climb peaks, go cross country, snowshoe, and backpack. Other areas to hike include the Tehachapi and San Emigdio Mountains, the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests, AND, extended holiday adventures to popular multi-state destinations!

Bakersfield Board and Card Gamers

Come get in a game! <br>

Although only a few people usually rsvp, so it sometimes doesn't look like it, we've been getting together for 5+ years, and playing online at least weekly (Friday nights is our usual night) since Covid lockdown started. Watch for Saturday live meetups where we can get our tabletop game fix.

For the Friday night online groups check out BoardGameArena dot com* and while you're there register for a free or premium account.

There are a few restrictions on a free account, but there is still a lot of value. Like you can chat and join groups and play almost all the games as long as someone else hosts the premium games.

With paid (a few dollars a month) premium accounts you can host even the premium games and multiple people at the same location can play without needing to use hotspots for additional players. Most members just start out using the free account.

We've played Puerto Rico, Tokaido, Stone Age, Saboteur, Carcassonne, Sushi Go, Quantum, Hanabi, No Thanks!, Welcome To, Hoarders, Can't Stop, Clans of Caledonia, Takenoko, 7 Wonders, No Thanks!, Incan Gold, and lots of others.

Wanna play a game?

After you've read the above and created your BoardGameArena account, please email me at MikeyMikeyGamer at gmail dot com and I'll invite you to our Discord server where the games are discussed and the links are shared.

*As far as I know, none of us have any ownership or other relationship with BoardGameArena other than end-user.

Bakersfield Spanish Language Meetup Group

Bakersfield, CA

Bakersfield Spanish Language Meetup Group

¡Hola a todos! I created this group with my friend Devon to connect with beginner and intermediate Spanish learners and to explore better ways of getting comfortable speaking Spanish. We’ve been testing out an audio-only class format (no video), where we take turns practicing speaking, guided by live native Spanish speaking teachers.

We're holding multiple 25-minute sessions everyday that have between 2-9 students and one instructor who guides everyone through the speaking prompts and helps correct mispronunciations. Our lessons cover a wide variety of topics, from conversational Spanish to medical Spanish.

- New lesson topics added (Career-related and Conversation topics)

- New grammar modules

- +50% new time slots

- New Drill Instructors from Mexico and Peru

1. Go to and select any proficiency level, date, and 30-minute session you want and you will instantly be emailed a Zoom link from "Calendly" that you should add to your calendar.

2. Click "Attend online" below, but do not add it to your calendar, as there will be no Zoom link in the meetup calendar invite.

If you have problems finding your zoom link, you can watch this YouTube video:
