This means you plan an event of what you like doing ie: hiking, knitting, book club, healthy cooking, movies or museums and cultural events. You get the idea. You are not obligated, but it gives all our members more to choose from and connect with similar interests, and with our rapidly growing group it lets us grow and reach more women who want to make friends. This could be done monthly, weekly, whatever fits your schedule. So please reach out to me if interested I will get you started and always be there for any questions or help.

For those further out and would like to start their own WTFifties chapter in their area contact me and Ill get you started.

We have a no-show policy as follows, if you fail to give adequate notice of cancelation, or fail to show up for events you will not be able to rsvp for events, and maybe removed from group if it continues. Please be respectful of our members, your friends.

We are a all inclusive group, warm and welcoming to all women. So we do not tolerate ANY harassing, bullying, gossiping or basic negativity. So two topics we don't allow, because of their often divisive nature is religion and politics.

You have to have a profile picture, full face only, no hats, sunglasses ect. to join. This is to help discourage fake profiles. We also need to communicate with you, so we recommend you to turn on EMAIL UPDATES & NOTIFICTIONS in both your computer and phone app. This helps with being able to do email confirmation for events and to cut back on no shows or last min. cancelation. If you need help doing this please reach out to me and Ill gladly walk you thru.

We welcome you and look forward to meeting you soon!

The PM Hikers

Simi Valley, CA

The PM Hikers

Welcome! I created this group in 2012 because I was hiking in a world dominated by morning people.  So on the hunch that there might be a few more people like myself, I decided to make a group that does not hike in the mornings.  After all, God created mornings for sleeping in, right?  This is the one characteristic that makes the PM Hikers different from any other hiking club.

Much to my joy I had a lot of hikers thank me profusely for the group, and several have even told me that the PM Hikers has changed their lives!  There is nothing more gratifying than hearing someone tell you that!

So what about beating the summer heat?  Instead of hiking in the morning, just hike in the evening!  If you think that's weird or scary, I think you will discover that the trails and the views are just as beautiful at night, and will open a new dimension of awe to complement that feeling when hiking in daylight.

That does not mean we only hike at night.  Rather, we do not begin our hikes between the hours of midnight and noon.  Thus, a 23:59:59 start time is as acceptable as one that begins at 12:00:01.

I know it's awkward when you first hike with people you do not know at all, but if you hike with us you will discover that the members are FRIENDLY, nice people.  You could easily make some friendships for life.  I certainly have.

If you are new to hiking, read the hike descriptions and send a note to the leader is you are not sure about something. Hiking can be quite physically demanding, but many members are beginners, so don't be afraid.

Watch your step on the downhill,

Kurt Godden

The Weekday Trailblazers

Newbury Park, CA

The Weekday Trailblazers

Please read our revised (August 2021) rules before you register for a hike or event:

Regrettably, we've changed our policies light of the spread of the recent Delta variant of Covid in and around Los Angeles County, where we often hike.

  • We will once again require evidence of vaccinations for everyone on a hike or at an event.
  • In addition, we welcome anyone who wants to to wear a mask, and discourage any critical comments.
  • We will continue to respond firmly (i.e. the hiatus of the past few weeks) if anyone gives a hike leader a hard time about any of our policies.

It's also summer (aren't you glad you don't live in the Midwest right now?), so our usual summer practices will resume. Please review before you register for a hike:

  • The number of hikers will not exceed 24, including the leader. This will allow us to hike on COSCA trails, State Park, and National trails without having to obtain a permit in advance. This also means that if you are on the waitlist, or you show up and have not registered (including “Plus-Ones”), you will be turned away.
  • Now that summer has arrived, we’ll start hikes at or before 8:30, and cancel hikes when the temperatures are forecast to be at or above 90, and when the temperature-humidity index is forecast to be at or above 85, at any time during the hike.
  • We encourage people to stick more closely together (i.e. no people who sprint ahead, start early, fall far behind, or who plan to go out part-way and turn back outside of the group). To accomplish this, we will encourage you to register for hikes at your skill level, and not to take spots from people otherwise capable of doing the whole hike but are unable to sign up due to our attendance limits. We will also stop marking turns with flour, etc. to encourage everyone to stay together.
  • You'll see hikes clearly described as “Gentler” (Thursday) or “Flagship / Intermediate” (Tuesday), and with accurate distance and elevation. Please consider this information carefully, along with the forecast temperature and humidity, when you decide whether to register. If you haven't hiked for a while, please consider doing a couple of Gentler hikes first to get back in the groove.
  • You may see some parallel hikes (a Gentler on a Tuesday, or an Intermediate on a Thursday). These will be at a different location and route than our regular hikes. You may also see hikes posted on other days, and at other times and places, mileage and elevation.

Welcome to the Weekday Trailblazers!

Our goal is to combine nature's magnificence, a good workout, and the support and laughter of friends. An observer of one of our early hikes noted that our group is like a mobile party, and we feel that captures our spirit beautifully. All that's missing is you, so get out here with us!

The Blazers are led equally by a dedicated cadre of experienced volunteer hike leaders, in a true communal spirit, with no charge for hikes or events (with rare exceptions).

The majority of our hikes fall within the area from Malibu to Simi Valley (south to north), and Will Rogers State Park to Port Hueneme (east to west), although we'll venture beyond those loose boundaries when we feel like it (we are Trailblazers, after all). We offer hikes of varying levels, as well as occasional non-hiking events.

• Our Intermediate / Flagship Hikes generally start at 9 AM on Tuesdays (earlier in the heat of the summer). Total distance is 7-10 miles (less in the heat of the summer), and you can expect some elevation gain (usually 1,500' to 2,000', less in the heat of the summer). We would rate them as intermediate for difficulty and pace. We have a strong roster of leaders for these hikes, but ANYONE is welcome to lead. Contact Steve J or Peter with your ideas.

• Gentler-Friendly Hikes are scheduled on Thursday mornings at 9 AM, earlier in the heat of the summer. These hikes are tailored for very strong beginners, those rehabbing injuries, or anyone wanting a little extra fun with friends. As the name implies, they're slower-paced, shorter distance (usually 5-6 miles), and lesser elevation gain (less than 1,500') than our flagship hikes. Contact Steve J with ideas for Gentler hikes.

We also occasionally run:

• Hump Day Hikes are, in a fortuitous bit of synchronicity given the title, on Wednesdays. These hikes start in the late afternoon/early evening (two hours or so before sunset), and have a similar pace to our flagship hikes.

• Mad Monday Hikes are similar to Hump Day Hikes, but ...on Mondays. Like our Wednesday hikes, they'll start in the late afternoon/early evening.

• Geologist Thom Davis' Rock & Stroll Hikes combine his expansive knowledge of the Earth's bones and our usual workout in natural beauty. Many events will be outside our normal stomping grounds, and some will involve overnight stays. Times and ability levels vary, so be sure to read the write-ups carefully, and contact Thom with any questions.

We cancel hikes for red flag warnings, when the temperature is 90 or higher, or when the Heat Index (also sometimes called Temperature Humidity Index) is 85 or higher at any time during a hike.

The Blazers welcome and encourage whatever level of participation you'd like. You can be out in front leading, in the pack enjoying the ride, or sweeping in the back. We value your contributions, so join our mobile party and let's have fun!

Our hikes are free, and our leaders are volunteers. However, we ask for voluntary contributions once a year ($3-$5) to help defray Meetup subscription costs. You can also help by buying Weekday Trailblazers gear (each purchase kicks in $3-$5 to the kitty):

• Logo Tees and Heat Safety T-Shirts!

• Logo Sweats

• Logo Coffee Mugs

We also ask that you be aware of the signs of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke, know what to do about them (for your own safety and for the safety of others around you). Just google "Mayo Clinic Heat Stroke Exhaustion", or buy one of our Heat Safety T-Shirts!

We also ask that hikers be prepared with:

• Hiking shoes appropriate for the terrain

• Loose-fitting clothing appropriate for the conditions (genereally, this means no denim or jeans)

• A broad-brimmed hat

• Water

• Electrolytes (Gatorade, Nuun tablets, etc)

• Sunscreen

While not responsible for your safety, our hike leaders may adjust, shorten, re-route, or terminate a hike based on conditions, at their sole discretion.

Please read the release of liability below in its entirety. By signing up for our group, you are agreeing to it for all events you participate in.

The hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.

Outdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers and hosts are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.

If you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group, its organizers, and hosts from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

All participants must be 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Sorry, we don't allow "Plus-Ones" on our hikes. Please join the group, then sign up for a hike.

Senior Movie Fans & More "IS CLOSED FOR NEW MEMBERS"

Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the new "Senior Movie Fans and More Meetup Group"! We have been having a wonderful time seeing and discussing contemporary movies, sharing meals, happy hours, hikes, walks, parties and other select activities/adventures with new friends.  Events are usually located proximate to the cities of Ventura, Ojai, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Carpinteria. Please join us if you are a senior-ish (59+) person who enjoys such events and meeting new people. You may invite a friend to join you at an event. This is a group for anyone interested in having a good time enjoying movies, dinners, walks, hikes, camping, kayaking, etc. All skill levels are welcome. I am starting this group to keep our existing friends together and also to meet others with the same enthusiasm. Looking forward to enjoying and exploring more fun activities with everybody.  Members may also offer ideas for movies, dining venues and other fun activities.  Events are held during various times of the day (mornings, afternoons, evenings) and on varied days of the week.  Hope to see you soon!

Dues/contributions are required for this group. I send out requests for contributions twice yearly to help with the cost of running our meetup group, which is appreciated when the members help assist with this cost. Contributions for special event costs will be sent out through as an email to members. "Chip In"  is also available on your member page and you can designate the amount you would like to contribute.  As a member, or guest, if applicable, you agree to read and abide by the terms of our member liability waiver agreement found under the heading "More" and then "Pages" tab of the Member page prior to attending any event. In order to review the tabs of the Member page and notifications you must use a desktop computer.  Current identifiable profile photo is required to join this meetup.  All participants including guests at events must agree to the member liability waiver agreement.  Participants should carry appropriate current identification and emergency contact information on their person when attending events.  The Organizer reserves the right to remove member(s) from this meetup for any reason at any time.  As a member you elect the degree to which you receive emails regarding events and your communication with other members, go to the group profile photo icon; Settings; Email notifications and then check boxes on what you wish to recieve. Please periodically review event details/descriptions you plan to attend as sometimes there are changes in the movie time and location updates.

Geo-hikes Geologic Maps Foundation

Ventura, CA

Geo-hikes Geologic Maps Foundation

The Geo-hikes Meetup group is open to hikers, geologists and geology students, plus anyone interested in learning a little geology while hiking.

Visit Events\Calendar\Past for the last few years for a quick appreciation, with photos, of Geo-hikes events. For example:

Crooked Creek, White Mtns:

Santa Cruz Island:

Deep Canyon and Santa Rosa Mtns:

Hikers, do you want to learn a bit of field geology and map reading skills while hiking, and sometimes camping in the western USA? Interested in participating in Geo-hikes and trips to scenic, and sometimes remote, locations? Want to learn about the fascinating history of the earth at these locations while on the move? If yes, then events hosted and led by the Geologic Maps Foundation might be of interest to you. Plus, the participants meet others with similar interests while getting great exercise. You do not have to be a geologist to attend but an eagerness to learn some basic geology and map reading skills are a must.

Professional geologists can share their knowledge and experiences (as co-leaders) with geology students and non-geologists while exercising and returning to, for many, why they got into geology in the first place.

Geology students (at any level) will gain field experience, an opportunity to interact and make contacts with professional geologists that could be helpful in the future, and with lots of outdoors exercise in interesting geologic settings.

There are a number of geo-hikes scheduled for the 2020-21 season and more will be added. "Spreading the word" about these events is most appreciated. Interaction of professional geologists and geology students with hikers, that are not geologists, informs the public about geology and its importance.

Geo-hikes has limited the size and frequency of its events due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. Events are still happening but are following more restrictive guidelines that are posted with the event summary.

Most of the Geo-hikes events and courses are free while a few are fund-raisers and require a donation to cover expenses and operating costs for the longer trips. The Foundation is a tax-exempt nonprofit ,IRS 501 (3) (C), with a scientific educational and research focus. Donations are tax deductible and go towards the expenses of the event and the operating cost of the Foundation.

Geo-hikes also organize and lead customized geologic field trips for professional organizations and companies to various areas in the western US and Baja California. Trips are great educational and team building experiences. Please email us at: for more information about the customized trips.
