Groups near Oakland, CA
EleRatch - Oakland
Black Women - 30+ who are successful, like to travel, and a nice balance of bourgeois and ratchet.
I’ve searched meetup and didn’t see anything active that’s close to what I’m looking for. I’d just like to meet a group of women with the intention of befriending a few who are up to trying different things. Basically looking for my tribe! I’m new to the area and now that the outside in Cali is about to fully open up I would love a packed social calendar to match it.
Would love to sync with positive women, who are doing good yet also leveling up, who have fun, are elegant and a lil ratchet (hence the name EleRach-lol) who aren’t flakes and love exploring the city and other areas.
Join me as we embark on a summer to remember!

VIRUS UPDATE: We are now reading on ZOOM with some in person readings as scheduled. Regular Zoom readings Sundays at 3:00pm and Wednesday Evenings at 7. Bring your own snacks and coffee! Script provided as always. Susan and Jeff
PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE SET YOUR MEETUP NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR PROFILE, IF YOU WISH TO JOIN THIS GROUP. WE DEPEND ON MEETUP TO KEEP YOU INFORMED.
A Sunday afternoon or Wednesday Evening, a beverage of your choice, a few snacks, a fantastic piece of playwriting, and a group of avid VOICE ACTORS who've had fun reading well over 300 plays since 2010! What could be better?
Check out our Play List that we have already read HERE. Our play readings
Below is an extensive description of this group and its rules.
EastBay PlayReaders is a group for actors and experienced readers who are theater lovers and would like the social experience of group reading and performing, script in hand or device. The group is open to those who will commit to reading and understanding the play and being prepared with a part. This is not a drop-in group, and requires EMAIL communication with the Play Reading Organizer in order to be cast in a role. Previous play reading experience is highly desired. In Person readings are in Alameda, CA. But we are excited that ZOOM has brought us readers from all over, who can cope with time zone changes.
Our readings are prepared, scheduled and cast. If you are looking for a "maybe I will stop by" group, please pass on us. Members who become cast and are no-shows, with no warning or explanation to the Organizer, will be removed from the group.
Typically an IN PERSON play reading will involve (1) social time to get to know each other (2) reading of the play(3) eating and drinking (4) discussion of the play (5) occasional post-reading social games. Our event is a potluck with everyone pitching in to supply drinks and snacks. Special needs folks should bring their own snacks.
The play reading can include both readers and audience, if extra people want to sit in and listen.
CASTING: Plays are selected and pre-cast by the organizer, and scripts and cast lists are distributed at least a few days to one week in advance, so parts can be prepared. The aim of casting is to produce the best overall reading of the play, to ensure a positive group experience. In a group with different levels of voice acting expertise, senior level voice actors or readers will normally get the heaviest roles. This serves to produce an exceptional reading, and also sets an example for others to improve their VOICE ACTING delivery.
Casting typically follows gender and character descriptions from the play itself, although exceptions are made. Requests to be cast in a particular role are usually welcomed and granted unless a role has already been cast.
Any issues with casting should be taken up privately with the organizer.
East Bay Ramblers
Welcome to East Bay Ramblers! This group is all about hiking for fun and fitness. We hike on weekday mornings...and also on weekends. If you love to hike, this is the group for you!
Some things you should know about the group:
• Hikes will normally be in the 4 - 10 mile range.
• We average a speed of 2.5 - 3.0 mph.
• Each hike posted will indicate the length and difficulty you can expect. Please be considerate of other’s time and only sign up for hikes within your physical ability that you can complete within the time allotted.
• Please RSVP to events only if you plan on attending. Be sure to update your RSVP if your attendance plans change, and avoid last-minute changes whenever possible.
• We wait at trail junctions to keep the group together, but as soon as stragglers are within sight the group will start off.
• There will be hills! You will need to be comfortable walking up and down steep hills.
• Most hikes are held in our beautiful East Bay Regional Parks with some excursions into State Parks and water district properties such as EBMUD and CCWD. We also occasionally organize urban hikes and trips to other regional park systems.
• Some hikes, but not all, will be DOG FRIENDLY and allow off-leash hiking. Some hikes will be on-leash and some will not allow dogs at all. Each hike will be clearly marked as either Dogs Off-leash, Dogs On-leash, or No Dogs.
• We are not professional hike leaders and don't have first-aid training. Participants must be responsible for their own safety and well-being.
This is a very social group. We like to talk, laugh, and enjoy ourselves while getting our exercise out on the trail. In the Bay Area we are incredibly lucky to be surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of open space filled with hiking trails. Join us as we explore and meet new friends!

Mensa / San Francisco Region
San Francisco, CA
This MeetUp provides a dynamic way for members of San Francisco Regional Mensa to get the latest on Mensa events in the Bay Area and to more easily host their own Mensa events. The idea is that by eliminating the very long lead time now necessary to post things to the Intelligencer, we will have more, and more varied, events on the calendar.
You MUST be a *current* member of Mensa to join this group. When you click "Join Us" (above right), please include your full name AND your Mensa membership number so that we can verify your membership.
If you'd like to become a member of Mensa, please go to the SFRM website, http://www.sfmensa.org/, to find out how to qualify, or to locate a testing session near you. In the meantime, you can join us in our San Francisco Mensa Friends Meetup where we have events open to non-members.
Organizers and Event Organizers can post events directly to our Meetup site, but Meetup no longer allows non-organizers to post events directly.
If you are a member of our Meetup group, but not an organizer, and you wish to have an event posted, click on "Suggest a new Meetup", or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure and be specific as to what the event is, including a full description, date, time, and location. If you'd like the event to recur on a regular basis (e.g., 3rd Wednesday of the month), be sure to specify that as well.
We hope to see you soon!

Looking forward to hosting fun and unique online and in-person events for everyone. Thank you for joining us!
********UPDATE as of 5/17/2021********
Message from founder Jennifer:
We had reached 370 active members in this meetup group (meaning everyone has either attended an event or clicked onto our meetup webpage within the last 4 months. This meetup group has now become a Private group. As of 5/17/2021 members who have been inactive for 4+ months have been removed.
Moving forward there are requirements that I will ask of you to maintain your membership:
1. Your face photo must be current and clear. If you have a full body photo and we can see your face clearly then that is okay. If you are wearing sunglasses, a face mask or showing us your back, side of your face or I cannot make out how you look and I have yet to meet you in a zoom meeting, I will remove your membership. If I already know you (this includes being on a previous video zoom meeting) then you do not have to change your photo.
2. Please update your member profile for this meetup group so that at least your first name is real (full names or last initials always welcome).
3. Unless it is a POP UP zoom meeting, you must rsvp YES if you will be attending an online OR in-person event.
4. If you no show to an in-person event your membership will be canceled.
5. If you no show two (2) times to an online event, your membership will be canceled.
6. For the Men: Always direct message me before contacting any female member in this group. If someone contacts me and tells me that you direct messaged or private chatted them in a zoom meeting and it made them feel awkward, uncomfortable or unsafe, your membership will be canceled.
If your membership is canceled please make the required modifications to your profile for this meetup group and re-submit your membership for approval. Know that you can have a different photo and name for your main meetup profile page if you are trying to be incognito outside of this meetup group.
I am going to host events at my home and need to make sure I know who you really are before you can attend. I also need to make sure everyone here is looking to make real friendships and authentic relationships. This is not a meetup group meant for shallow or superficial conversation or to support people who are inconsistent or unreliable.
Here is my direct text phone number in case you have any questions or if you cannot make an event last minute due to an emergency: 650-346-3598
Thank you for your friendship!
East Bay Pick-Up Soccer (Co-Ed) EVERYBODY WELCOME!!!
San Leandro, CA
Words from the group's founder: Daniel "Uber" Bäsel
I am looking to start up a casual pick up game here in the East Bay with some like minded people. To see if you are interested, let me introduce myself...
I was born and raised in Germany and played soccer from the age of 3 all the way through high school and then casually into my late 20's.
Now in my mid-30's and many pounds heavier, I am far from peak conditioning but would like to start casually playing soccer again on the weekends.
Ideally I would like to play either Saturday or Sunday mornings for about 2 hours in the San Leandro/Castro Valley/Hayward area at a location we can all agree on. I can provide the nets and cones as well.
EVERYBODY is welcome, but if you are a pro player and expect an ultra competitive setting this may not be for you.
I would love to build a little community of like minded soccer fans from around the world to spend a few hours with each week kicking the ball around!
If you are interested, please join this group and i will get in contact with you!!
Here are a few rules to follow when deciding to join us for a friendly pick-up game. most of these are pretty "common sense" but I still think it is a good idea to lay them out so everyone knows what to expect (Please note that breaking these rules will eventually result in a ban from this group):
1) "The Golden Rule": We are all here to have fun, get a little exercise in and walk away happy and most importantly healthy. Slide tackling/Body Checking is ABSOLUTELY NOT permitted ANYTIME and doing so will result in a warning as well as a free kick for the other team.
2) "Everybody's Game" : This is a MeetUp group for EVERYONE who would like to come and play. Young and old, male or female, skilled or brand new to the game of soccer. Please treat it as such. If you are a skilled player with lots of experience, try to involve the players who may be new to the game as good as you can.
3) "Foul Language" : We are all adults in this group and I sure have a potty mouth at times. Just a few things to keep in mind though. Cursing or directing foul language at another player is NOT TOLERATED and will result in a warning. If the game angers you to the point where you have to direct foul language at another player, perhaps this is not the meetup for you.
4)"Goalies" : Most people don't like to play goalie but if we all share the duty of playing goalie, it becomes less of a hassle for everyone. Please volunteer to play goalie rather than having to be asked to.
PLEASANTON PICKUP SOCCER GROUP
Welcome to our pickup futbol group!
There is nothing better than people coming together for the sheer joy of...well, having fun! Fun is what futbol is all about. Yes, it's competitive and it's engaging! But, above all, its simply fun! That is why I would like to invite people like you, who share my love of the game, to come join us. Our games are usually held on weekdays and weekends. Keep an eye on the meetup site for details.
The group is entirely co-ed and all skill levels are invited. We do have a few basic ground rules that help to keep our games fun and safe. They're listed below. You'll need to read them and agree to follow them at all times in order to join our. I invite you to come join us.
We only ask for a small $10 per year contribution to help cover the cost of goals & other equipment.

GROUP RULES <br>PLEASANTON PICKUP SOCCER GROUP
Each player, whether brand new or fairly seasoned, should know what to expect when he/she comes to our games. For that to happen, each player has to know the group rules. So, take a minute to read through the rules below.
It’s a must to play. Your RSVP reserves your spot on the field for you and your guest(s), but only if you arrive on time. Spots are often limited by a healthy turnout for each game. So, if you can’t make it, be sure to change your RSVP ASAP so that a player waiting for an open spot gets a chance to play. If you RSVP, but show up more than 20 minutes after the posted game time, you may not be able to play (see below).
You can bring up to 2 guests to a game (Except some weekday games, which are in high demand). A guest can try out our group & see if they like us. If the guest wants to come to game 2+, he/she probably likes us. He/she will need to sign up for our group & RSVP to come to game 2+.
This is the maximum number of players allowed to RSVP to a game. The cap is set to keep the games fun for everyone by avoiding over-crowded fields.
Players trying to RSVP for a game that is already full will enter a waiting list. When a spot opens up, you will be automatically RSVP’d to the game. However, if you’d like to bring a guest, you will be automatically RSVP’d only when enough spots open up for you and your guest(s).
Wait-listed players and others who did not RSVP may also join our games IF players who did RSVP do not show up within 20 minutes of the posted game time.
Game Start Time
The posted game time is the intended arrival time, not the game-start time. We allow 15-20 minutes for people to arrive, stretch, lace up, and get ready to play. Sometimes, it takes a little longer. But, we try to get started as early as possible. If the game is scheduled for 8:00pm, you should aim to be on the field and ready to play by 8:15pm. We pick teams 20 minutes after the posted game time.
When is a player considered to be late?
If you are not on the field and ready to play (not getting ready to play) within 20 minutes of the posted game time, you are late.
If you are late, you are not guaranteed to be able to play, regardless of whether or not you RSVP'd. When we start picking teams, we will choose from the players who are on the field and ready to play.
If you show up 20+ minutes after the posted start time, YOU CAN ONLY PLAY in the 2nd half of the game IF: (1) you do 30 pushups AND 30 squats upon arrival WHILE counting off out loud for everyone to hear; (2) you're willing to wait until half time to jump in; (3) the game has not reached the maximum players permitted. If you half-ass the pushups/squats (i.e. do less than 30 each or do not do complete ones), the group assistant organizers and I will interpret that to be disrespectful of the group rules and fellow players, which will be grounds for removal from the group, permanently.
If you RSVP to a game but don’t show up, someone on the waitlist that wanted to play may not be able to because you did not hand over your spot. If you RSVP but later find out that you’re not able to come, please change your RSVP so that someone else gets a chance to play.
Players that do not show to a game after RSVPing will be warned on the first incident. But, we will remove players who repeatedly no-show. It's up to the Organizer's discretion to determine what constitutes as "repeated."
Attire & Equipment
All players are required to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for field sports. Each player should bring a light and dark shirt to every game (so we can easily break up into teams). Soccer cleats & shin guards are strongly recommended because they help to prevent injury. But, they are not required.
This group was formed for four main reasons:
To unite people in the enjoyment of the beautiful game of soccer, or fútbol, as you like;
To socialize, make new friends, and enjoy each other's company;
To get some exercise while having fun at the same time; &
To give players of all skill levels a safe and friendly environment to play in.
We can only accomplish our group purpose if everyone practices good sportsmanship at all times during our games. It’s a must. That means:
Welcoming and getting to know other players;
Helping with field setup and breakdown;
Passing the ball often (& not just to friends or people you’ve played with before);
Volunteering to play goal-keeper rather than waiting for someone to ask;
No aggressive behavior, negative comments about other players, whining, or excessive arguing over past plays; &
No dangerous plays, such as slide tackles, body checks, high kicks, & flying kicks or headers. No play, no matter how great, is worth the risk of hurting someone.
Our group is not about competitive league play. It’s about meeting new people, making new friends, enjoying a great game, and above all, having fun!
If you feel someone is treating you poorly or making you feel unwelcome on the field, please speak with an organizer, and we'll get it sorted out. We want all players to feel welcome and safe in our group.
E-mail is the primary way that we communicate with the group. So, all members must register a valid e-mail with Meetup.com. Players cannot effectively participate in the group, and they will be removed.
When discussing specific games, we often communicate through Meetup comments. So, be sure to check those out as well. For those of you with a smartphone, we recommend that you download the Meetup app. It’s free, and it will notify you when new comments and game changes are posted.
Inactive players are periodically removed from our roster. Any player who does not attend at least 1 game within 3 months is considered inactive. If you are removed due to inactivity, you can always re-apply to the group when you plan to become active again.
If you get removed from the group for any reason, you may apply to re-join, but approval is not guaranteed. A second removal is likely to be permanent. If you are banned, you will not be allowed to re-join the group under any circumstances.
Enforcement Of Rules
The group organizers reserve the right to take any and all reasonable steps necessary to ensure that the above rules are respected by all group members in their broadest sense. All members are required to agree to the rules upon registration, and any member who fails to follow them may be removed from the group. Honestly, most of this stuff is common sense. We're not out to give anybody a hard time. We just want to make the group as enjoyable as possible for everyone. The rules help us do that, so please respect them.
Thank you for reading. If the rules sound fair to you and you agree to follow them, we invite you to become a part of our group.
Risk of Injury
Like most sports, playing futbol/soccer comes with the risk of serious injury. By agreeing to the above rules and participating in your games/events, you understand that there is a risk of injury to you, possibly through no fault of your own. By participating in our games/events you understand and agree that you may be seriously injured during our games/events.
Downtown SF Tennis
San Francisco, CA
I'm looking to hit / practice during weekday morning/afternoons at either the Bay Club Gateway, Dolores, or Russian Hill tennis courts (or another court in the same area). Approximately NTRP 4.0 level, but just looking to rally for fun (though with a lot of top spin). I don't have a 9-5 schedule, so I'm looking for others that have that flexibility to play before the busy hours after 5.
Feel free to reach out to me directly or post your own events as well for times that work for you. It looks like Meetup removed the ability to let all members post events, so just message me or reply here if you'd like to post some times yourself and I'll give you event organizer status to do so.
Casual Hikers of the East Bay
Casual Hikers of the East Bay is a slower paced group for those who want to get active, have fun, and meet like-minded people. We prefer to move at a more relaxed pace, eat snacks, and soak in the beautiful views of nature. Also, not waking up at the ass-crack of dawn is a plus!
There are so many amazing hiking groups out here with some amazing people, but many of the hikes are way out of our fitness range. This group is especially for those who want to experience the outdoors within the safety of a pack. Whether you're new to hiking or a wilderness expert, there's something here for everyone.
We welcome you to join our group with the understanding that fitness and sports activities are dangerous, and can result in injury or death. By joining our group and participating in our events, you agree to hold the organizers, event hosts, and members harmless from any loss, damage, or liability that may occur during the event or in transit to/from the event.
We're all about new adventures, so if you have any ideas please suggest them! And despite our dislike of suffocating rules, we do have a few that are important to make sure that everyone feels included and stays safe, so be sure to check them out here before joining.
When you attend group events，Implied consent is assumed that you're okay with being photographed without explicit written or oral permission. In case you don't want to be photographed，please feel free to let people know about.
Fun, Feisty and Over 40
First due to covid, we ask that all our members are vaccinated so that we do not pass covid to unvaccinated people,
Don't let our name fool you. This group is for WOMEN in our 50's , 60's' and more! We are married and single, widowed and divorced, working and retired. We build friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
We are constantly on the go. Movie nights, eating out, BUNCO, book club, bowling, hiking, walking, potlucks, just to name some recent events. We welcome and encourage suggestions from our members. What do you want to do? Let us know, choose a date and place and we will get it set up.
We also do volunteer work to help those in our community. This group is all about US and we make it whatever we want it to be.
Our events are mostly in the East Bay, we have events mostly in the Tri-Valley area, and more, all depending on what people want to do. We also go to San Francisco, Casino trips, musicals, plays and more.
Please be sure to have a look at our guidelines and a more.
One more thing. we collect dues of $10 per year. After your first event, you will be asked to send a check to the organizer. We also ask that you attend an event within the first 30 days.
The dues are strictly for Meet Up administrative fees, deposits and sometimes supplies for events and a big themed party during the year. We hope to see you soon!
Alameda Intro to Pickleball
If anyone is looking for a fun new sport to try, let us introduce you to Pickleball.
It's not a new sport that just came out. People have been playing it since 1965. But in recent years, it has been rapidly growing in the Bay Area. There are lots of places to play around the Bay and more courts are being added.
Pickleball is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive sport for experienced racquet sport players. Don't need expensive equipment to start. It's a social sport (making new friends is just part of the sport). It will get you active. It can even be a good sweaty workout. You can choose to play competitively (leagues and tournaments) or just recreational.
Here is a link to explain what Pickleball is...
If you or someone you know want to give it a try, come join the group.
Experienced players: Message me and I can suggest open play times for you to join at Alameda (home court: Lincoln Park, 1450 High Street) or at other courts around the Bay Area.

We are a mix of active single AND couples that want to expand/build their network of friendships with people who like to do similar activities. We want people who are really active. We're simply trying to gather a bunch of truly fun, active, kind people, who actually like to go have fun, mingle with others, and try new things.

LezBayIns: Lesbians Around The Bay Over 50
This Meetup is for Lesbians over 50 who live anywhere in the Bay Area (south, north, east, or SF) who want more options to do fun, interesting, artistic, athletic, intellectual, culinary, outdoor, indoor, pretty much anything with other Lesbians over 50 anywhere in the Bay Area...*THIS IS YOUR MEET UP...AND ALL ARE WELCOME TO POST THEIR EVENT IDEAS!*
If there's a performance (film, play, concert, comedy...) you want to attend with other lesbians over 50...
If you have a favorite dining or drinking venue OR you want to check out a new one with other lesbians over 50...
If there's an outdoor spot you love (beach, woods, trails, urban) you'd like to explore with other lesbians over 50...
If you have a hobby or interest you'd enjoy sharing with other lesbians over 50...
You get the idea! The sky's the limit, and the whole Bay Area is our playground.
We are 4 lesbian co-organizers (all over 50), but anyone who joins this Meetup group can propose, and then post & host a Meetup. The 4 of us will get things started, but the goal is to "open this up" so a wide variety of interests and Bay Area locations are eventually represented.
