Bay Area Women's Midweek Hiking Group

Burlingame, CA

Bay Area Women's Midweek Hiking Group

We are a group of women who enjoy challenging weekday hikes in the San Francisco Bay Area.  This is not a group for beginners. Some of us are retired or with kids off to college, some are stay at home moms with school-age kids, others have flexible work schedules or are in between jobs. Some are international visitors/visa holders/green card holders or dual citizenships.  Regardless, we all have time during weekdays when the trails are empty and parking is a breeze! We mainly focus on peninsula, south bay, east bay, and coastal trails, but also plan excursions to Mt. Tam, Marin Headlands, and San Francisco urban hikes.  **Most hikes are 6-10 miles and moderate to strenuous with significant elevation gain of 1000-2000 feet elevation. Sometimes we do exploratory hikes and some hikes can include some scrambles - please be sure to read the entire hike description so you know what you are signing up for in advance.** In order to keep to the planned schedule and keep the group moving, anyone unable to keep up will need to feel comfortable navigating their way back on their own. All members can schedule a hike or suggest a hike, and are encouraged to do so through the meetup app! Let me know if you have questions on how to do this.  We throw in many dog-friendly hikes too! We enjoy each others company and believe that friendly conversation is as much part of a good hike as the beautiful views!  If this sounds good, please come join us- we would love to meet you! **FAQ's** •***Can I bring my baby or toddler?  Although we love kids, our hikes are not suitable for young children*** ***• Can I bring my dog?  Sometimes! I will specify which hikes are dog friendly.  If you are bringing a new dog, just tell us a little about him/her in the comment section*** **Please note that for safety reasons, we have a 3 hiker minimum requirement.  Unless we have at least 3 hikers confirmed 2 hours before the start of the hike, the hike will be cancelled.  Thanks for your understanding!**

Bay Area Hikers & Campers

San Carlos, CA

Bay Area Hikers & Campers

Hello hikers, campers and mountaineers! From solid day-hikes to multi-day adventures, this group is for intermediate to experienced outdoor enthusiasts that want to meet like-minded folk for advanced trips on and off the beaten path.

Events are generally scheduled on weekends. Most hikes involve 7+ miles and 1500+ feet in elevation gain at a pace of 2-3 miles per hour. For camping, we organize backpacking and car-camping outings (typically in combination with hikes) on weekends.

Group size for events will generally be small (6-18 participants) for safety reasons and to limit our impact on the trails. It also helps with moving efficiently.

In addition to getting a good workout, enjoying nature with friendly, fun and outdoorsy people is double the fun.

rules & etiquette:

If you want to join, your profile needs to include a picture of yourself (showing your face).

Sign up - Show up! Organizing an event is volunteer work that requires time to plan and participate. Especially since we are running events with smaller groups. Please be respectful of the organizer’s work and only sign up if you are planning to actually attend. Sure - stuff happens and work or other life events can through you a curve ball every now and then. If your plans change, please cancel your reservation ASAP. No shows and members that repeatedly cancel at the last minute can be waitlisted on future hikes.

  • You understand that participation will include a variety of hazards and dangers, foreseen or unforeseen. These hazards and dangers could result in personal injury, property damage, and death ("Injuries and Damages"). • By participating in these events, you assume all liability; specifically, you agree to not hold liable the Organizers or other participants for the cleanliness, suitability, freshness or safety of any food you may be offered or consume.
  • Because members often share food at our events, or sometimes events are catered by third party vendors, or both, it cannot be guaranteed that every allergen in the food served will be identified and labeled either.
  • The possibility that caterers or manufacturers of the foods members consume, bring, use or prepare at home could change the formulation at any time, without notice also exists. Customers concerned with food allergies must be aware of this risk. Attendees with life threatening food allergies who may need to use an epi-pen should be carrying their own. The Organizers are NOT trained to administer epi-pens and CANNOT provide or administer them.
  • We cannot guarantee the absence of cross contamination in any food items shared by members or prepared by third party vendors, nor can we guaranty the safety or cleanliness of the ingredients as we do not prepare any of the food ourselves.
  • The Organizers will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed, or items one may come in contact with, while eating at any of the Organizers' events.

SPECIFIC WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT REGARDING FOOD AT ORGANIZERS' EVENTS

Bay Area Hikers & Campers is not a professional food distributor, caterer or preparer. You understand that even when best practices are followed, food preparation carries with it inherent risks that include but are not limited to health hazards resulting from improper transport, handling and storage, which are especially risky when holding this type of event in a remote location such as a camping site with no running water or electricity, in an outdoor setting which is in no way a professional and enclosed kitchen. In addition, you are aware that in a buffet style setting where members have access to the food tables and dishes, it is even harder to prevent food, utensil or cutlery contamination. You are also aware that other club members beside the Organizers may bring their own food and may offer to share it without the Organizers’ knowledge.

Waiver: Therefore, in consideration of being permitted to participate in any Bay Area Hikers & Campers event where food prepared, cooked, perishable or otherwise, are transported, further prepared, and consumed, you, for yourself, your heirs, guests, family members, personal representatives or assigns, agents, employees and affiliates, do hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue the Organizers from liability from any and all claims resulting in personal injury, accidents or illnesses (including death), and property loss arising from, but not limited to, participation or food consumption at the Event.

Assumption of Risk: Participation in any Event carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. The specific risks vary and can include but are not limited to cooking food thoroughly; separating and not cross contaminating foods; chilling or refrigerating food appropriately; cleaning foodstuffs, instruments and hands used in and for food preparation; fire or gas hazards.

INDEMNIFICATION AND HOLD HARMLESS: You agree to INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS the Organizers from any, and all, claims, actions, suits, procedures, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities, including attorney’s fees brought as a result of any involvement in Event, whether brought by you, your company or its agents or employees, or other third parties, and to reimburse the indemnities for any such expenses incurred.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING: You have read this waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement, fully understand its terms, and understand that you are giving up substantial rights, including any right to sue. You acknowledge that participation in the event requires you agree to these terms and that you are doing so freely and voluntarily, are over the age of 18, and intend by your participation to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law.

Northern California Golf Club

Fremont, CA

Northern California Golf Club

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA GOLF CLUB

We are a social golf meetup group, which offers its members an option to join our very own NCGA Associate Club by the same name: Northern California Golf Club.  To register, here is the link:

https://northerncaliforniagolfclub.memberplanet.com/

If you click on the above link, you'll see a green "Join This Club" button with a yellow star on it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are welcome to join us if you are an Intermediate+ golfer. Here are some expectations:

- Familiarity with basic rules of golf and golf etiquette, particularly the practice of honoring a good pace of play;

- Respect for the game and our members;

- Adherence to our policies, including showing up for events on time or earlier if requested.

Whether you participate in our golf outings or our non-golf social events, you are responsible for any damages or injuries you cause to property or other persons. You are participating at NCGC events at your own risk, and neither the Organizer nor the Event Organizers will be liable for damages or injuries caused by any of our members during our meetups or travel to and from our meetups. NCGC is also not liable for any injuries inflicted upon it members or damages done to members' properties or loss of properties (including golf equipment, transportation, etc.) during events and travel to and from our meetups.

Also, unless you are already a member of our Beginners group, you must use your real name or initials and a recent photo of yourself when signing up. If you are not comfortable with this policy or any of our other policies, this is not the group for you.

OUR GOALS AND ACTIVITIES

Let’s play our part in promoting and practicing the industry’s goal of finishing a round in about 4.5 hours.

For over two years, we have been providing exceptional golf experience to players of all ages, and our group keeps getting better and better. We will continue to play 18-hole courses all over the Bay Area and sometimes beyond.

We oftentimes hang out after the round for a meal or a drink. This is optional, so don't feel obligated to stick around if your plans do not permit it.

We are also open to suggestions for playing various courses in the Bay Area. If there is a course you would like to play, let one of the Event Organizers know and we will look to getting it on the calendar.

FEES

Annual NON-REFUNDABLE fee: $11.36

If a member is removed from our group, this fee will not be refunded.

ATTENDANCE and RSVPs

Our attendance policy is strict. This is a requirement as we reserve tee times up to two weeks in advance, and we are required to fill those tee times. Golf courses do not like last minute cancellations as they make their money by having full foursomes.

When you receive notifications of scheduled meetups, it is not necessary to reply "No" if you are not attending an event. You have the option to click on "Yes" or "No," but you don't have to; you can simply delete the email without replying. Of course, if you RSVP "Yes" then your plans change, you must update your RSVP to "No."

Do not sign up for a meetup if there's a chance that you might have to cancel at the last minute. It's better for you to sign up at the last minute than to cancel at the last minute.

* Although one no-show may result in the removal from our group, the first no-show may only be given a warning, depending on the circumstances.

 * Last-minute cancellations are frowned upon. A last-minute cancel is if you cancel your RSVP after the RSVP deadline or after an Event Organizer has posted the group assignments, which might be a day or two before the RSVP deadline.

* A combination of a no-show and last-minute cancellation will also result in the removal from our group.

* Last-minute cancellations will be accepted from our "regular" members who have a good attendance record—until it starts to become a habit.

Thank you for observing and respecting our policies. We work hard to ensure that our members always have a great experience on the golf course.

Welcome to the Northern California Golf Club. We look forward to your upcoming participation.

East Bay Ramblers

Oakland, CA

East Bay Ramblers

Welcome to East Bay Ramblers! This group is all about hiking for fun and fitness. We hike on weekday mornings...and also on weekends. If you love to hike, this is the group for you!

Some things you should know about the group:

    • Hikes will normally be in the 4 - 10 mile range.

    • We average a speed of 2.5 - 3.0 mph.

    • Each hike posted will indicate the length and difficulty you can expect. Please be considerate of other’s time and only sign up for hikes within your physical ability that you can complete within the time allotted.

    • Please RSVP to events only if you plan on attending. Be sure to update your RSVP if your attendance plans change, and avoid last-minute changes whenever possible.

    • We wait at trail junctions to keep the group together, but as soon as stragglers are within sight the group will start off.

    • There will be hills! You will need to be comfortable walking up and down steep hills.

    • Most hikes are held in our beautiful East Bay Regional Parks with some excursions into State Parks and water district properties such as EBMUD and CCWD. We also occasionally organize urban hikes and trips to other regional park systems.

    • Some hikes, but not all, will be DOG FRIENDLY and allow off-leash hiking. Some hikes will be on-leash and some will not allow dogs at all. Each hike will be clearly marked as either Dogs Off-leash, Dogs On-leash, or No Dogs.

    • We are not professional hike leaders and don't have first-aid  training. Participants must be responsible for their own safety and well-being.

This is a very social group. We like to talk, laugh, and enjoy ourselves while getting our exercise out on the trail. In the Bay Area we are incredibly lucky to be surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of open space filled with hiking trails. Join us as we explore and meet new friends!

PLEASE READ  LIABILITY DISCLAIMER:

I am the creator of the below rules for the BABGMG (in 2012), so I am copying, pasting and updating them here, starting with some of our expectations:

- Familiarity with basic rules of golf and golf etiquette, particularly the practice of honoring a good pace of play;

- Respect for the game and our members;

- Adherence to our policies, including showing up for events on time or earlier if requested.

Whether you participate in our golf outings or our non-golf social events, you are responsible for any damages or injuries you cause to property or other persons. You are participating in NCGC's Beginner+ Group (NCGCb+) events at your own risk, and neither I/the Organizer nor the Event Organizers will be liable for damages or injuries caused by you or any of our members during our meetups or travel to and from our meetups. NCGCb+ is also not liable for any injuries inflicted upon it members or damages done to members' properties or loss of properties (including golf equipment, transportation, etc.) during events and travel to and from our meetups.

Also, you must use your real name or initials and a recent photo of yourself when signing up. If you are not comfortable with this policy or any of our other policies, this is not the group for you.

OUR GOAL

Let’s play our part in promoting and practicing the industry’s goal of finishing a round in about 4.5 hours.

OUR ACTIVITIES

Although this is a new golf meetup group, many members of this Club have been golfing together for more than 8 or 9 years. For close to a decade, we have been providing exceptional golf experience to players of all ages, and our group keeps getting better and better. We will continue to play 18-hole courses all over the Bay Area and sometimes beyond, as well as schedule 9-hole events and group golf lessons for the newer golfers in our group.

We oftentimes hang out after the round for a meal or a drink. This is optional, so don't feel obligated to stick around if your plans do not permit it.

We are open to suggestions for playing various courses in the Bay Area. If there is a course you would like to play, let one of the Event Organizers know and we will look to getting it on the calendar.

FEES

Annual NON-REFUNDABLE fee: $15.00

If a member is removed from our group, this fee will not be refunded.

ATTENDANCE and RSVPs

Our attendance policy is strict. This is a requirement as we reserve tee times up to two weeks in advance, and we are required to fill those tee times. Golf courses do not like last minute cancellations, as they make their money by having full foursomes.

A last-minute cancel is if you cancel your RSVP after the RSVP deadline or after an Event Organizer has posted the group assignments.

* A combination of a no-show and last-minute cancellation will also result in the removal from our group.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS

-- I understand that pace of play is very important to this group. If I am a slower player, I agree to pick up my ball if necessary to maintain a good pace of play.

-- Although there will be some 9-hole meetups scheduled, I understand that most of the meetups will be for those who are at an advanced-beginner or intermediate level. As a beginner, if I’d like (more) 9-hole or easier 18-hole meetups scheduled, I will request them.

-- I understand that this group takes its rules seriously and that infraction of any of the group’s policies will result in my removal without a refund of my membership dues.

-- I agree that by RSVPing to a meetup, I am committing to attend that event. I understand that cancellations should only be for exceptional circumstances and that multiple cancellations will result in my removal from this group without a refund of my membership dues.

-- I understand that some meetups may require a pre-payment, and in the event that I am unable to attend, it is my responsibility to find a replacement player. If a replacement is unavailable, I understand that I forfeit my pre-payment.

-- If health-related mandates are issued (including for COVID-19), I will be participating in NCGCb+ events at my own risk, and I agree to follow any and all social precautions imposed by the golf course and the county in which the course resides.

Thank you for observing and respecting our policies. We work hard to ensure that our members always have a great experience on the golf course.

Welcome to the Northern California Golf Club's Beginner + Group. We look forward to your upcoming participation.

Photography Walks & Workshops in San Francisco by Casey

San Francisco, CA

Photography Walks & Workshops in San Francisco by Casey

Let's explore San Francisco by taking pictures (and videos) and learn new techniques along the way. Plus get outside for fresh air and exercise too! About me: I have been doing photography for over 35 years and used to shoot weddings, portraits, commercial work for decades. I am an expert in still photography having started with the Nikon F4 film camera plus the Hasselblad 503cx medium format film camera in the 90s, then transitioned to digital with the Nikon D1x and D2x in early 2000, and more recently changed to all Canon gear with the Canon R5 and 90D and M50 digital cameras. I also actively use the Canon XF400 and G60 camcorders for creating online content for my YouTube channel "Casey On Location". I am also an expert in lighting and exposure as well. Because I enjoy photography and filming, I can also share my knowledge with others who share the same passion. I am a long-time resident of San Francisco since 1980 so I know quite a bit about The City by the bay. So join the group and we can shoot images and videos together at interesting spots in San Francisco, learn a thing or two from each other, and hopefully get in some sunshine and exercise too. IMPORTANT: This group is geared towards users with cameras that have (as a minimum) the "M" mode setting for full MANUAL exposure. You must have a camera whereby you can independently change the exposure values for the aperture (f-stop), shutter speeds, and ISO. This means if you only have and use a smartphone for a camera (ie: iPhone or Android phone), this is not acceptable and you will not be approved to be accepted into this Meetup group. Those members who were previously accepted initially into this group early on and only have and use a smartphone for a camera have a limited grace period to get an acceptable camera to remain in this group.

Mensa / San Francisco Region

San Francisco, CA

Mensa / San Francisco Region

This MeetUp provides a dynamic way for members of San Francisco Regional Mensa to get the latest on Mensa events in the Bay Area and to more easily host their own Mensa events. The idea is that by eliminating the very long lead time now necessary to post things to the Intelligencer, we will have more, and more varied, events on the calendar.

You MUST be a *current* member of Mensa to join this group. When you click "Join Us" (above right), please include your full name AND your Mensa membership number so that we can verify your membership.

If you'd like to become a member of Mensa, please go to the SFRM website, http://www.sfmensa.org/, to find out how to qualify, or to locate a testing session near you. In the meantime, you can join us in our San Francisco Mensa Friends Meetup where we have events open to non-members.

Organizers and Event Organizers can post events directly to our Meetup site, but Meetup no longer allows non-organizers to post events directly.

If you are a member of our Meetup group, but not an organizer, and you wish to have an event posted, click on "Suggest a new Meetup", or send an email to membership@sfmensa.org.  Be sure and be specific as to what the event is, including a full description, date, time, and location.  If you'd like the event to recur on a regular basis (e.g., 3rd Wednesday of the month), be sure to specify that as well.

We hope to see you soon!
