You know the story: Scrooge, Marley (a very dead Marley), three ghosts, Tiny Tim, blah blah.

But have you ever seen it live on stage in downtown Olympia?

Well, now is your chance!

Harlequin Productions is putting on its latest adaption of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol running Nov. 28-Dec. 24, at the State Theater—and I am organizing a night to see it on Thursday, Dec. 11, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $38 (youth) to $57 (general) and there are Rush Tickets available on the day of the performance for $28.50 ($5 for the under 20 set).

Update (11/30): Harlequin set it's Pay What You Choose (PWYC) performances—and we did not get lucky: Ours is not one of the PWYC performances. They are on Sat., Dec. 6, Fri., Dec. 12, and Thu., Dec. 18. You can find out more about Rush Tickets and PWYC tickets here: https://harlequinproductions.org/tickets/ticket-info/ticket-pricing-ticket-deals/

Note: Children are welcome. Harlequin rates the production as “G” but children should be OK with ghosts and some of the serious themes of the play (Does Tiny Tim die or not?). That said, this is a great way to introduce kids to the magic of live theater.

How to RSVP

It’s a two-step process:

1. Go to Harlequin’s website and purchase your tickets. I’ve already purchased my tickets and will be in seats House Center F1 and F2. If you’d like to sit together, there are currently (as of my posting this 10/13) plenty seats available in that section and row as well was the rows adjacent to those

2. RSVP here and, if you’re comfortable with it, post your seat information in the comments below. That way we can end up sitting together, if the seating gods are kind. Or maybe there can just be little pods of Meetup people. :)

I have attended a couple performances at the State Theater and I’m not sure there’s a bad seat in the place. Still, I do recommend House Center.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and I’m going to plan to be there around 6:45 (or earlier) and hanging out in the lobby until it’s time to go in and get seated. They do have a concession stand with wine, nibbling things, and “specialty cocktails.”

Also, I plan to head to The Spar after the show for maybe another drink or a bite to eat, maybe a little dessert and to chat about the play and stuff. Everyone is welcome, no one should feel obligated.

Rush Tickets

If you are interested in Rush Tickets, you should be able to get an idea of what’s available by going to the ticket purchase site the day of the performance.

My guess is that there will still be seats, but they may not be great seats—but most the seats at The State are pretty good.

If you are certain you will try for Rush Tickets, RSVP and then post a note in the chat so we know who to look for. :)
