What we're about

Ah...Joy.  A word that is different for all of us. Some of us love nature, others a good book.  Some just wish for some quiet time, others a paint brush and canvas.  No matter our view of joy, the most important truth is that we must remember to partake in it.  This beautiful journey called life should be enjoyed.  But, what is a sad truth, is that life can create walls, and then those walls easily block joy from bloom.  Why is this?  Are we too stressed, too busy, too depressed, too driven, to sit back and relax? Joy and passion, what makes our soul smile, should always be a priority in life, no matter our age, or our status.  Because, my friends, when your soul is happy, you are happy, healthier.  Oh yes....I said healthier.  And this meetup has explored happy and healthy from many perspectives.  We've hiked, we've biked, heck, we have even roller skated!  We've had many discussions on health including details on sugar, inflammation, and our daily habits.  Why? My friends, what we put in our body and how we treat it on a daily basis, is also a major part of having joy in our life.
I started this group the day after the sad news of Anthony Bourdain.  This person I had seen as a culturally friendly, open minded, experienced man of the world. He loved to cook, to travel, to meet and talk with people.  I have always tried to travel as he, truly getting to know each place I have the joy of experiencing.  But, what I didn't realize was he was hurting, he was lonely, he had walls up, just like so many of us.  In this age we are more connected than we have ever been in history, but yet we are the most lonely, medicated and depressed.  Why is this?  Well, it's just another reason I wanted to start this group.  So we can talk, share, experience together and feel a sense of community.
So come join us in realizing the importance of making sure that JOY resides within. It is up to us to make a commitment to it each day. Be us 20 or 70, our bodies and souls long for joy.  When we truly start to make it a priority, we can begin to see all of the wonderful ways in which our bodies, minds and lives are benefited from making sure that we are... Finding Joy In The Everyday.

The Joy of Doing Good

Needs a location

Joy Seekers!
Oct 1st is the next "Do Good" weekend for the Samaritan Inn in Mckinney. Want to join me for a morning of volunteering?

"As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands--One for helping yourself, the other for helping others." ~Audrey Hepburn

I have found over the years that one wonderful way to bring yourself joy, is to serve others. I have been a part of the leadership team for serving Samaritan Inn for years. They are a spectacular organization for Collin County. Won't you join me?

As of right now...we are just showing up and Doing Good for the shelter. We might be inside organizing..outside working on plants... not sure... what is important is that we just show up for them.

Want to come join us?

NOTE...maximum of 10 people. So please don't sign up until you are 100% that you can come.
Thank you!

The Joy of Being in Nature... Hiking Weekend

Needs a location

Hey Joy Seekers!
This will be our 3rd year together to head to Beaver's Bend for our now considered annual hiking weekend getaway!

"And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul" ~unknown

This little slice of heaven has plenty to do and is absolutely beautiful. You can hike, swim, fish, kayak, take a cold dip, chill at the local Beavers Bend Brewery... whatever your joyful heart desires.

The plan is to hike and river side it up Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning before heading back to DFW.

You can come and relax the weekend away by the river...or hike it up with me...

Whoever wants to join me...
Day 1 will be Forest Heritage Tree Trail(easy), Lookout Mountain Trail(moderate) and river side relaxation if time...

Day 2 will be Skyline Trail(hard, 7-9 miles) and a cold dip with river side relaxation ...then off to Beavers Bend Brewery... for pizza and a cold one to end the day

Day 3 will be Beaver's Lodge Trail(easy) morning with waterfalls ....before heading to my favorite gift shop...then back to DFW.

Note: Broken Bow, the town next to Beavers Bend State Park, has all the stuff you need...grocery store, restaurants, hotel, etc.

Where to stay: camping is first come first serve and there are plenty of beautiful riverside spots....The Charles Wesley is a cheaper hotel in Broken Bow I have stayed at before, but there are several to choose from, and the Lake View Lodge is right next to the lake and has the most spectacular sunrises.

There will be a mix of people staying at different places I am sure...we can discuss once I start knowing who wants to come and if people want to camp, get a cabin, or hotel it up.

Note: I will be getting with Lakeview Lodge to see if they are done restoring, etc, and update later.

Just want to get this on the calendar so people can start thinking about the trip.

Be Joyful!
Sincerely,
Marianda
