Greetings! This group is open to everyone. I'm open to members molding and shaping the group. Please share your ideas. As for me: I recently got back into firearms after being away from them for quite a few years. I seem to have plunged right into building a collection, completing an 8 hour tactical carbine (AR style rifle) class, renewing my concealed carry handgun permit, completing hunters education, and just got back from a deer and boar hunt in West Virginia. I've now got a chest freezer full of game meat. I had not been hunting since 2017, but I did grow up hunting and fishing while living the rancher lifestyle. I applied for and am awaiting my suppressor application to be approved to see what all the fuss is about (suppressors are now commonplace). There is so much to learn about firearms: how they work and how we can use them. I've only been to two indoor shooting ranges (Sharpshooters and NRA, both of which I'm a member and I believe I can get guests a discount), but definitely open to other ranges, especially outdoor ranges with greater than 50 yards. I'd also like to explore some of the public lands for hunting of all kinds. As of 19 October 2025 when I started this group, I didn't see any Meetup groups tailored to these activities. This is my newbie attempt to plant a seed and see what grows. I'm looking forward to connecting with anyone who is on their own firearm journey ( beginner to advanced).
Things on my mind for the group: 1) Concealed carry laws in Virginia and more restrictive areas like Alexandria, 2) concealed carry methods (IWB, OWB), 3) target practice for defense and/or hunting, 4) ammunition selection and sources, 5) ballistics and calculators, 6) getting started with suppressors, 7) new firearm shopping (I have a few on my list), 8) existing firearm modification and upgrades, 9) exploring ammunition reloading (seems daunting but useful), 10) fixing firearms (I've had to work on my own AR and have lots of tools), 11) firearm cleaning and PPE, 12) potential sites for upcoming squirrel, rabbit, and deer season in Virginia, and finally 13) FIREARM SAFETY. What's on your mind?
