Dawn Coastal Adventure Hike: Worm's Head and Rhossili Bay, The Gower, Wales.

Dawn Coastal Adventure Hike: Worm's Head and Rhossili Bay, The Gower, Wales.

Details

๐Ÿ”ธ Date: Friday 11th February.
๐Ÿ”ธ Time: 07:30 start (arrive early to allow time for parking). Finish around 11am. It's early because Worm's Head is only accessible at low tide (8am) for just 2 hours!
๐Ÿ”ธ Difficulty: Moderate/hard. The 'causeway' is rocky and can be difficult to walk across - good boots are a must!
๐Ÿ”ธ Dogs allowed but the route includes sharp rocks with lots of hazards for their legs and paws! There are also ponies and sheep roaming free.
๐Ÿ”ธ Cost: FREE!

Join us for a unique adventure hike to Worm's Head - an island on the Gower Peninsular that's only accessible for a couple of hours at low tide each day!

The clifftop walk from Rhossili to the headland is absolutely lovely, with far reaching views across Rhossili beach and out to sea. Worm's Head - from the Old English word 'wyrm' for 'sea serpent' - is a headland island that is the furthest westerly point of the Gower Peninsular.

We'll be setting off just before low tide and at dawn, so can expect a winter sunrise and fantastic adventure hike!

๐Ÿ”ธ IMPORTANT: This is a challenging walk, although most of it is pretty easy, the scramble across the rocks to Worm's Head is not to be taken lightly! We also have just 2 hours to do the walk safely. Please know your limits and wear good walking boots with ankle support.

Here are some of the highlights of this adventure:

๐Ÿ”น Dawn sea views, spectacular clifftops, a rare chance to visit an island that's cut off most of the time.
๐Ÿ”น Wildlife including roaming ponies and seals on the rocks.
๐Ÿ”น A real adventure with a bit of risk and physical challenge.
๐Ÿ”น Fantastic for photos!

Extra notes:

๐Ÿ”น Parking: we'll meet at the The National Trust Rhossili Car Park. If you're a National Trust member then parking is free, otherwise there are pay machines (also use the PaybyPhone app) - it's around ยฃ6 for 4 hours.
๐Ÿ”น Headtorches are a must! We'll be heading off at dawn, and the scramble across to Worm's Head is very rocky and uneven.
๐Ÿ”น Please dress for the weather, bring waterproofs and wear good walking boots; it'll be slippery on the rocks.
๐Ÿ”น Bring any food and drink to keep you going, and we recommend a small rucksack to stow things in.
