This week's sermon-based questions:
Getting to Know Me
1. When did you first start thinking seriously about money or saving for the future? What influenced your mindset at that time?
2. Have you ever received a piece of financial or life advice that stuck with you? What was it, and how did it shape your decision?
Into the Bible
3. Read Luke 12:13–21. What stands out to you about the man’s decision to build bigger barns? Why might his actions seem reasonable, yet still earn Jesus’ rebuke?
4. Jesus says, “Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” How does this teaching challenge our culture’s view of success and security?
5. What does it mean to be “rich toward God,” according to Jesus? How is this different from being financially wealthy?
Application
6. The sermon emphasized shifting our focus from building personal wealth to building God’s kingdom. What might that shift look like in your daily life?
7. Think about the phrase “This is what your investment looks like” from Bishop Curry’s story. Where in your life are you investing in something that has kingdom impact?
8. How can we practice generosity in a way that honors God and builds up others—not just through money, but with time, mentoring, and encouragement?
9. Who in your life has “invested” in you like Rick did for the pastor in the sermon? How might God be calling you to invest in someone else?
10. If your life ended tomorrow, what would you hope people say your “riches toward God” were? What steps can you take today to move toward that vision?
