All welcome to join us for a pint and a lively discussion about this week's sermon. Remember, you can always find the sermon written in this week’s Ekklesia Newsletter
Sermon-based questions for discussion this week:
Getting to Know Me
- When have you signed up for something (a class, a team, a job, a project) only to discover it was harder than you expected? How did you respond?
- Who has modeled deep commitment in your life—whether to faith, family, or another cause? What did you admire about their example?
Into the Bible - In Luke 14:25–33, Jesus uses strong words like “hate” family and “give up all possessions.” How do you understand Jesus’ use of hyperbole here?
- Why do you think Jesus was so clear—and even harsh—about what it costs to follow Him?
- The sermon mentioned that the disciples themselves failed, yet Jesus forgave and invited them to try again. What does that teach us about the nature of discipleship?
Application - The sermon contrasted casual vs. committed disciples. In what ways do you see this tension in your own spiritual life?
- Are there areas of your life where faith feels compartmentalized—where you let Jesus into some spaces but not others?
- How do you experience the pressure of competing commitments (family, work, sports, finances, volunteering)? How might surrendering fully to Jesus bring clarity?
- Jesus said, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” How does full devotion to Jesus actually bring relief rather than more pressure?
- What is one step you can take this week to move toward greater commitment to Jesus in your daily life?
