Growth Group Questions
based on the Sermon from Sunday, January 11, 2026
based on Matthew 3:13-17
## Getting to Know Me
- When you think about the start of a new year, what kinds of changes or “resolutions” tend to matter most to you, and why?
- Can you recall a time in your life when you felt especially ready—or desperate—for change? What was going on then?
- Where do you most often feel anxiety or helplessness when you look at the world today?
***
## Into the Bible
- John the Baptist defines repentance as a concrete change in direction. Based on the sermon and Matthew 3, how is repentance more than just feeling sorry for sin?
- Why do you think Jesus insisted on being baptized, even though he had no sins to confess? What does “to fulfill all righteousness” reveal about Jesus’ mission and character?
- The sermon emphasizes that Jesus “gets in line” with everyone else. What does this tell us about the kind of King Jesus is, especially compared to worldly leaders?
- How do the actions of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit at Jesus’ baptism shape our understanding of who Jesus is and how God relates to us?
***
## Application
- If repentance means aligning our lives with God’s values, what is one habit, attitude, or priority God might be inviting you to turn away from—or toward—this year?
- The sermon calls us to “get in line behind Jesus” in an anxious and divided world. What might following Jesus look like for you in your daily relationships, conversations, or choices right now?
