Bible and a Brew

Special 4th Anniversary Trip Back to Phamtom Canyon Brewery!
All welcome to join us for a pint and a lively discussion about this week's sermon. Remember, you can always find the sermon written in this week’s Ekklesia Newsletter
Getting to Know Me
- When you hear Jesus say, “You are the light” (not “you could be” or “you should be”), what feelings or reactions come up for you? Relief? Pressure? Doubt? Joy?
- The sermon emphasizes that “you all are”—that we shine in community, not alone. Where in your life do you most experience faith as a shared light rather than an individual one?
- Can you think of a time when your faith felt like a small book light—quiet, personal, big enough for you—or a time when it felt more like a light in the woods, barely casting a glow in the darkness? What made the difference?

Into the Bible
- Jesus says, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). What stands out to you about the focus on good deeds rather than good words?
- What do you think about the idea that our light can’t be blown out, but it can be hidden? What are some ways our light gets hidden—intentionally or unintentionally?
- How does the idea that our light reveals both good deeds and bad deeds shape the way you hear this teaching? Does it change how you understand Christian witness?
***
Application
- The sermon challenges the idea that faith should be private. Where do you feel tempted to “cover your light” because of fear, discomfort, or social pressure?
- What are some specific “dark places” in your community, workplace, family, or world that might need the light of love, justice, or compassion right now? What might shining look like there?
- Reflecting on the quote: “You reflect a part of God into this world that no one else ever has or ever will,” how does that shape the way you see your purpose this week? What is one concrete way you can “go shine God’s light” where you are?
