What is a Bank? (#2 of a 3-part journey)
Details
In the last meetup, we discussed money and reasoned about its relevance from first principles. This time, let's go further and understand what we do with money and why banks exist.
As we do in all our gatherings, we'll use thought experiments, discussion and real-world scenarios. We'll go back to a time when there were no banks, no technology and no bankers, and try to invent a bank from scratch. We'll reason from human needs and the problems people are trying to solve when they hold money.
No jargon. No textbook diagrams.
This is the second part of our 3-part series:
What is Money → What is a Bank → What is Credit?
First part - https://www.meetup.com/first-principles-of-fintech/events/316688483/
The goal isn't just to understand banks. It's to develop the habit of thinking and reasoning from first principles.
If you work in fintech, product, engineering, design, operations or financial services — or you're simply curious about how the financial system came to be — come join us.
No finance knowledge required. Just bring your curiosity.
