All Vows
The traditional prayer for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in Judaism, is a prayer that asks God to release people from any vows they might make in the coming year. The prayer teaches that not all vows humans impose on each other are good and holy. For instance, it can be the right thing to break a vow to stay with an abusive partner. God wants all humans to be peaceful, well and whole. The Rev. Sarah C. Stewart preaching.
Service Music: We are delighted to welcome Patrick Chatham, cellist, back to our sanctuary to play works by Bach, Bloch, and Squire. Sten Gustavson and Ellen O'Neall Waite will also be singing a blues tune called "Bessie's Advice." Allegra Martin will be on piano and organ.
Faith Development: On our Ferry Beach Sunday, when many of our families are together in Maine, we have a special Faith Development opportunity for those joining us at First Unitarian. Kris Johnson will be leading a children and youth zumba class! Parents are welcome to attend with their child, or stay for the service.
