TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME
The Roxy Cinema, Park Road, Miramar, Wellington, NZ"Faster and faster. And for a long time you wouldn't feel anything. And then you'd burst into fire" - Laura Palmer
TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME.
DAVID LYNCH | USA & FRANCE | 1992 | 135mins | R18+| 4K DCP PROVIDED BY JANUS FILMS DISTRIBUTION
Join us for this very special community fundraiser screening of the prequel to the critically acclaimed series, "Twin Peaks".
ABC cancelled the original series after season 2 but a month later, Lynch announced he was "not yet finished with the material" and principal photography for the full length prequel film, began on September 5th 1991 at a caravan site in Snoqualmie Washington. Which became the "Fat Trout Trailer Park" where the story of the last 7 days of Laura Palmer begins.
Since its showing at the 1992 Festival De Cannes, no other Lynch film had polarized audiences to such an extent. Fans that wanted more "Cherry Pie" and "Donuts" from the TV show were served a much darker, unflinching and unforgiving work - in Lynch's own words, a movie about "the loneliness, shame, guilt, confusion and devastation of the victim". Derided by critics and many fans at the time it was a commercial box office flop.
Yet in the years since the initial reaction, a gradual wave of reappraisal and appreciation began. With time it's brilliance came into focus with growing acknowledgment, that the film is a more accurate, complex and powerful account of trauma. Combining the dramatic ferocity of Sherly Lee's tour de force and the beauty of Angelo Badalamenti's score, Lynch reclaimed full ownership of the material creating a harrowing, compassionate and enigmatic hymn to Laura Palmer.
As we approach the films 34 year anniversary and since Lynch's passing in 2025, it is now regarded by critics and fans worldwide, as a revered epilogue, essential predecessor to "The Return", and Lynch's most chilling, terrifying, and yet empathetic and humane cinematic masterpiece.
