Flagstaff Great Music - Music is the Language of the Soul
Details
At our last Flagstaff Great Music MeetUp we decided that since we love both classical music and classic rock, unless or until we develop a consensus for one or the other, for now we decided to alternate between the two, and since we did The Eagles at our last MeetUp, this MeetUp we'll go back to classical music and listen to/discuss Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, one of the earliest written pieces of music that is still commonly performed today. And though it is rarely presented as such, The Four Seasons is actually program music based on four sonnets (one for each season, of course!)
We can briefly discuss Vivaldi (the "Red Priest"), his long association with the Pieta, the girl's orphanage in Venice for whom he wrote so much of his music, and then listen to The Four Seasons (each season is about ten minutes), or we could pick one or two seasons and listen to a couple of very different versions, so if you have any recordings of The Four Seasons (CD or Vinyl) bring them with you.
For anyone who will be attending for the first time, I'll send you the address when you RSVP. Hope to see you there!
